Pub boss defends 'Sash Bash' party for Old Firm derby

The Crown Inn is set to host the event during Sunday's Celtic v Rangers clash.

An Ayrshire pub boss has defended hosting a ‘Sash Bash’ event for this weekend’s Old Firm clash.

The Crown Inn is set to house the party for Sunday’s Celtic v Rangers match and will also feature a live flute band and ‘cultural music’.

The event is a ticket-only function with the action getting underway at 11am for the noon kick-off.

The owner of the Dreghorn pub was not willing to talk about the event but did say that it was a private function organised by Loyal Orange Lodge 218 and didn’t contravene any licensing laws.

The pub has been flogging the event on their Facebook page for weeks with the Main Street boozer set to screen the clash between first placed Celtic and Rangers in third.

If Aberdeen lose to Motherwell on Saturday, a win for Brendan Rodgers’ side could see them sitting 30 points clear at the top of the league.

While a win for Graeme Murty’s men would leave the Gers three points behind Aberdeen in second place.

Organisers of the Crown Inn bash say that briefs for the Scottish Premiership clash have been selling fast and have been counting down the days to the big match on social media.

The Crown Inn have previously hosted ‘Old Firm Bashes’ in the past but this is the first time it has been promoted as an ‘Old Firm Sash Bash’.

And for £3 punters can get free food at the boozer and Springside’s Derry Flute Band will be there to entertain revellers on the day too.

How many slophouses will be full of Brendans and Declans singing the praises of the "auld country" on Sunday yet this story is thought to be newsworthy ?

I hope the guys attending have a great day.
