Fernando Ricksen attends launch of two special Rangers tops created in his honour

The former Holland midfielder is terminally ill with motor neurone disease and the money raised from the shirt sales will go to the Fernando Ricksen Foundation.

 

Ibrox hero Fernando Ricksen has attended the launch of two special Rangers shirts created in his honour.The stricken Dutch icon was presented with the tops at the Stonefield Tavern in Blantyre, Lanarkshire.

 

Former Ibrox stars John McDonald and Derek Ferguson also attended the Lion Brand launch event to lend their support to the 40-year-old, who revealed he terminally ill with motor neurone disease in 2013.

 

Lion Brand, a merchandising company set up by Rangers fans to help the club, produced the stylish new strips and all the money raised will go to the Fernando Ricksen Foundation.

 

The tops were designed by the former Holland international and they feature his national colours and the No.2 he wore when he played with Rangers.

 

They can be pre-ordered from Lion Brand and they will go on sale before a fundraising tribute match being on March 25th in Ricksen's honour.

 

The game at Fleetwood Town's ground Highbury in Lancashire will see a Rangers Legends side take on an England Select with an 2pm Kick Off.

 

Amongst the star names already signed up to play are Teddy Sheringham, Darren Anderton, Paul Scholes, Lee Hendrie, Frank Sinclair, Steve Lomas, Dave Beasant, Kerry Dixon, Trevor Sinclair, Paul Ince, Phil Babb, Don Hutchinson, Michael Mols, Marco Negri, Jorg Albertz, Alex Rae, Colin Hendry, Marvin Andrews, Scott Nisbet, Gordon Durie, Charlie Miller, Mark Walters, Jonathan Johansson, Ronald Watteraus, Pieter Huistra, Peter Lovenkrands and Arthur Numan.
