Club1872 statement

Recommended Posts

We have now had the opportunity to discuss these concerns with Stewart Robertson, who is keen to continue this dialogue in a further meeting with Club 1872 Directors

This is ambiguous.

A "further meeting" would tend to suggest there has already been a meeting on this issue but it might refer to previous meetings.

"We have now had the opportunity to discuss these concerns with Stewart Robertson" might simply have been a phone call; leading to a meeting.

Some clarity about what was discussed in the meeting or phone call and what more will be discussed in the "further meeting" would be helpful.

It is significant that no date has been set for the "further meeting" or if it has where are not being told.

It's a nothing statement.

Perhaps people take a step back and look at it from a different perspective?

Members raised their concerns to the representatives of Club1872. Those were taken in, compiled and the reps of Club1872 arranged a meeting with SR to make these concerns known.

THAT is the main thing the statement says, i.e. informing members that their concerns were heard and taken to the club and SR. It is what the reps were expected to do. (They could obviously have informed all Club1872 member privately ... instead of making this statement. )

As of now, SR & Co. won't have more to say than what they did on the club's homepage, it is an ongoing process. (If they had, they could just as easily post it on the homepage, for if they give it to Club1872, a statement would reveal it to the public anyway.) But they now know that their fifth largest shareholder is watching closely ... and as opposed to season's gone by, might have a word or two if things don't go well.

They can't win, can they....

Club1872, put out a statement confirming that they have listened to members concerns & have opened dialogue with SR with a view to resolving these concerns. - they get criticised.

Club1872, listen to their members & spear to SR but don't release statement - get criticised.

Club1872, release statement revealing all the details discussed with SR - lose trust of club & criticised over the information released.

Club1872, don't put out a statement - they're doing nothing, get criticised.

As Der Berliner mentioned above, the club are now well aware that a major shareholder is watching & questioning what is going on and that fans are getting restless.

They would have known that prior to any contact from Club 1872, contrary to the common perception the Board are no mugs (though far from infallible too) and don't inhabit an ivory tower.

Strikes me that this is, in part, a response to some discussion over the weekend around c1872's role as a major shareholder and to what extent we are holding the Board to account in a constructive manner. Although I'm sure that work is progressing in the background, given the turmoil the club is continuing to experience, its natural the supporters begin to look to the likes of c1872 to seek assurances that we are indeed working to the plan that SR referred to last week.

Although clearly of good intention, the statement seems designed to fill the vacuum, but the language was a bit clumsy and begs further questions and uncertainty.

Something for the c1872 Board to reflect on in due course, but for now I'm more concerned with the outcome of the proposed meeting and look forward to seeing the minutes when published.

Update on Meeting with Stewart Robertson

Dear Member

Following our update last week, Club 1872 is disappointed to report that our planned meeting with Stewart Robertson on Monday has been postponed.

We understand that there are pressing matters that require Stewart’s attention - not least of which is the ongoing process of appointing a Director of Football and/or Manager. It is absolutely correct that this should be his priority until a satisfactory outcome is achieved. However that does not lessen our desire to seek clarity on what we feel are some very important questions regarding the future direction of Rangers and the current situation the club finds itself in.

The Club 1872 board shares the concerns of a growing number of our members over a perceived lack of progress both on and off the park and believes it would be in the interests of all parties to address those concerns sooner rather than later. Having communicated this to Stewart Robertson, he has agreed that the meeting will go ahead before the match on Wednesday 1st March.

Club 1872 operates solely for the benefit of the Rangers community, our members and the football club we all support. We remain committed to engaging in constructive dialogue with Rangers and will update our members with details of those discussions after Wednesday's meeting.
