How much your Premiership side is in line to win in this season's prize money breakdown

Record Sport Online has obtained the prize money breakdown for the 12 spots in this season's top tier - and it's up on last season.

Rangers are involved in a four-way battle for a £2.112m prize for finishing second in this season's Scottish Premiership table.

While runaway leaders Celtic are coasting towards a whopping £2.948m champions payout, the battle for 'best of the rest' is far more gripping affair.

Currently Aberdeen lead the way with Rangers, Hearts and St Johnstone hot on their heels in the race which is worth £300,000 more than the prize for third which stands at £1.815m.

The fourth-best placed side in the Ladrobrokes Premiership will be awarded £1.595m and the fifth £1.485m.

In total, the SPFL will dish out £18,105,000 to the 12 Premiership sides at the end of the season, figures obtained by Record Sport Online reveal.

The team finishing bottom of the pile will pocket just £990,000 to rub salt into the wounds of relegation.

Celtic have already guaranteed a £200,000 payout for winning the Betfred Cup while runners-up Aberdeen will pocket £100,000.

This season's prize money is up slightly on last year's which saw champions Celtic land £2.827m and runners-up Aberdeen receive £2.025m.

But it is unsurprisingly dwarfed to that of England’s top flight. Last season Leicester earned £93m for winning the Premier League.

Thats scary. The money we get for finishing second is the difference to a team like Bournemouth finishing 13th instead of 15th. You just wonder what will happen if the English league does get into trouble. Leeds and Portsmouth will look success stories.

I was listening to Talksport the other day who were saying they would rather see Villa, Newcastle, Leeds etc in the top flight instead of burnley, Bournemouth and Hull etc - I find this unfair but true at the same time. Yes on paper the big teams playing each other is more attractive but teams are their on merit. But it made me think would they not rather have Rangers (and unfortunetely) Celtic turning up at Stamford bridge and Anfield rather than the Hulls and Burnleys. It would help their product even more.

So ... if we indeed sell a 15-year old to Chelsea soonish, he'd rake us in roughly 1/3 of what the whole team gets for its accomplishments of the whole league season. Well, as Tom Miller pointed out today, 300k are a LOT of money for the likes of Thistle, who want to build a new sports centre (or the like). For the big guns, well ... well it is still good to have ...
