McParland Leaving ?

Recommended Posts

In the Sun and posted on FF

FRANK MCPARLAND is poised to quit Rangers amid unhappiness over his recruitment record and a lack of resources for signings.

SunSport can reveal Mark Warburton’s trusted chief talent spotter has grown disillusioned with operating to a severely limited transfer budget – amid also interest in him from several English clubs.

But balancing that is boardroom disquiet with what directors see as a lack of value from a number of signings brought in last summer, including the disastrous Joey Barton episode, the currently crocked Niko Kranjcar, Philippe Senderos and Joe Garner, just three goals in 20 games.

The possibly imminent departure of former Liverpool scout McParland would be a serious blow for the under pressure Warburton who’s going into a must win Scottish Cup fifth round tie against Morton at Ibrox on Sunday.

There’s been speculation defeat would see the Londoner sacked following a hammering by Hearts and a draw against Ross County which has seen the Gers drop to third behind Aberdeen – with both now a whopping 27 points behind runaway leaders Celtic.

Ironically, Warburton is believed to be currently in London for discussions with a signing target.

Adding to the behind the scenes turmoil – with chairman Dave King nowhere to be seen – is the fact defender Rob Kiernan is now considering his Gers future after being targeted for verbal abuse from a number of bitter fans at half time of Saturday’s game against County.

Kiernan had been left out of the 18-man squad following a number of poor performances and mistakes and was in the main stand.

It wasn’t the first time he’s suffered stick from aggrieved supporters and he’s now weighing up the possibility of leaving at the end of the season.

Kiernan’s under contract until 2018.

No Rangers players should ever be subjected to that kind of abuse. If he does leave though, I won't be unhappy over it. As a defender he is pretty awful.

And the same goes for McParland. as a talent scout he is pretty awful.

We've had two pretty honking transfer windows since McParland arrived. We've missed out on players we thought we were getting and it's hard to argue that those who have arrived have contributed consistently. All of which means that either he's been poor or he's not had the necessary support from the club to get deals done. So if he and/or the manager do get relieved of their duties, the board will have nowhere else to pass the blame if it doesn't pick up.

And I'm not sure what those having a go at Kiernan think they're going to achieve. We all get frustrated but most of us can manage not to yell abuse at people, especially those we'd like to see improve.

The question needs to be "how much money do you need to secure 2nd with a bit of ease?"

£16m wage budget and £10m transfer kitty!! If you can't do it with £11m and £3-£5m then you should hang your head in shame.

MW has been told over and over from those within the club that winning is paramount he has actively agreed but ignored that advice on the belief he can change the fans mentality. No thanks Mark I prefer being a winner.

On a side note just out of interest the manager today said he's sure the rangers fans can see the effort and desire the team puts in. Does anyone agree with him? Are we that far apart in thinking that he can't see our players are cruising
