Rangers hate mob driving defender Rob Kiernan out of Ibrox

It's believed the stopper is giving serious consideration to his future with the Light Blues

ROB KIERNAN could quit Rangers after being baited by an Ibrox hate mob.

SunSport understands the Gers stopper was left badly shaken by last Saturday’s ugly incident at half-time in the 1-1 draw against Ross County.

We revealed how fans turned on Kiernan, 26, who arrived at Gers from Wigan in 2015.

Kiernan’s also come under verbal*attack away from Ibrox.

It’s believed he is giving serious consideration to his future with the Light Blues, despite signing a contract extension until May 2018 last summer.

Kiernan’s latest shocking incident saw him targeted for bitter abuse from a number of Gers fans as he made his way to the players’ lounge — and several stewards had to intervene to prevent the flashpoint escalating.

Concerned boss Mark Warburton spoke with the player at the club’s Auchenhowie training base on Tuesday when the squad reported back following a few days off.

Kiernan was axed from the squad for the County game following a poor display in the 4-1 defeat to Hearts at Tynecastle.

The former Republic of Ireland youth ace, who worked with both Warburton and Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers at Watford, has made 71 appearances for Gers, and played an integral part in last season’s Championship-winning success and run to the Scottish Cup Final.

It’s unclear if he’s in the right frame of mind for a recall for Sunday’s crunch Scottish Cup fifth-round home tie against Morton.

Warburton recalled Philippe Senderos for the Staggies match, only his third start since joining last August, and may decide to keep faith with him alongside Clint Hill.

Meanwhile, fit-again Danny Wilson came through a development game against Hibs on Tuesday and is hoping to return to the side for the first time since the Hogmanay defeat to Celtic.

Terribly sad news...I know a lot of Gers fans who aren't happy with Kiernan as a player for us and let it be known, but for anyone reverting to abusing him like that is shameful. If he leaves us for that reason then that can't be right.

This type of behaviour crosses so many boundaries it's hard to count them. Not only is it vile it's an embarrassment and could even affect our ability to bring in new players who may not want to join a club with this type of thing going on. Such behaviour should merit an instant and lifetime ban.

Does anyone know anything about this first hand? Did anyone witness this? I am not saying it didn't happen, but has it been blown out of proportion by the papers? Was it a couple of individuals who had had a few pints before the match? Obviously, no place for this at all and you would hope for better from the support but would be interested in hearing the first hand account.

I saw this on a comment section, which, although isn't a great source of information, sounds like its probably more realistic.....

"Truth is Kiernan was verbally abused by one idiot outside the Players Lounge. One of Kiernan's company reacted and a brief, noisy argument took place. Heat of the moment stuff and the balloon who had a go at big Rob was removed from the situation by his own mates. No stewards whatsoever were involved."

I never understand when players are berated in this manner off the pitch, its as though the abuser thinks that players go out each week with the mindset "you know what will be fun this week, i'll play sh*t to p*ss everybody off and it will be funny"

Feel that this is totally out of order if anything Ta vernier should be getting the abuse as his lack of playing in his own position puts so many of his team mates under pressure on the field especially Kiernan.

Not condoning such actions of course.

No player should get abuse at all. If it gets like the Payet situation at West Ham and a player refuses to play for the club then songs sang are ok so long as they dont get personal.
