[FT] Rangers 2 (Miller 85; 89) - 1 Motherwell

It would have been daylight robbery had they snatched that game. If anything, they defended admirably throughout ... and we simply had no real answer on the park for long spells. It took us some 60odd minutes for our first shot from outside the box (Windass), closely followed by McKay. But we hardly posed any threat from there. Still, teams like them have been playing like that at Ibrox for as long as I can remember and then to have the guts and claim that you feel bad about the loss takes some beating. Just be clear and say it would have been phenomenal had they won it.

Well that was honking, again. Our play under Warburton this season is boring, passive, conservative. Our lack of goals is obvious, as is our inability to defend properly. No team in football is successful with both these traits.

21 days into the transfer window, and we have brought in two loanee uninspiring midfielders - absolutely astonishing.

My confidence in Warburton is fast disappearing. His continual selection of undeserving players, his continual subs lotto, I could go on. For an inexperienced manager I have been happy to give him time but there is little sign of him even seeing where the faults lie never mind fixing them.

We have our second lowest scoring (goals per game) record post-war (only 1984 was lower) but this is never really mentioned anywhere.

Going to our games this season is the same feeling as going to watch Ally's final season, you know you are not going to be entertained and you can't see where a goal is coming from, I just hope we can sneak a result, and fortunately we got lucky today thanks to some awful Motherwell defending at both goals. Makes a change to see others defend as badly as we do right enough!

Happy that our season didn't end this afternoon, and hoping for another home draw (apart from THEM) in next round, but please please please get a feckin centre half and a striker in before the window shuts.

We don't see these players on a daily basis, but I was somewhat surprised to see us starting with Toral and MOH*, who both hardly had game time. Both were actually odds on to be subs for later on. And whether MOH's strengths were a good starting choice for breaking up the Motherwell wall? I had my doubts.

Likewise, I was surprised to see Holt, who has been industrious as ever throughout the season, but seems to be off the boils somewhat as well ... probably because running himself into the ground every week.

Next week might be different, as Motherwell will probably be more open in their approach, which should be a field day for quick, counter attacking football out of a solid back. Did I just write "quick"?

*Some cynical voice in me whispered whether we tried to (loan-)shop-window him in today's LIVE game. Though it was a quiet voice ...

The one that whispered to me was not quiet. I think that's what it was. Either way, he played like he had a point to prove.

1-9 ... well no. They simply played him and his off the park and you simply can't argue when a team is so much better and all ...

BTW, the Arabs lost 6-2 to Ross County, which was nice. Too bad that Hibs were handed one of the easiest games away to Bonnyrigg Rose. Their score will ensure that TLB will be shown prominently in the news and rhags.

As my son is on holiday my brother came to game with me and was delighted with score and the displays of McKay and Miller, both of whom should be shoe in's for new contracts.

Thank goodness for Wes's goal stopping abilities but still too slow at times to play ball out, should get Gilks to teach him art of quick, accurate throws.

Same pathetic standard from referee today.
