But the Ibrox star has told fans he is ready to come back stronger than ever as he targets more years at the top.

Niko Kranjcar has lifted the lid on his injury nightmare and revealed he was thinking about quitting. But the 32-year-old has vowed to Rangers fans he now aims to play on for another few seasons.

The Croatian star was dealt the hammer blow of a cruciate knee injury just as he was starting to perform in the light blue.Kranjcar was ruled out for the rest of the season after being struck down with the injury in October.

But the attacking midfielder has revealed he's on the mend and can't wait to get back in action for Rangers next season.Krannjcar said: "It's always difficult when you get hurt, especially because I was really enjoying it."It gave me a shake, but the injury did not throw me into the pit of despair.

"Something in my head said, 'don't give up’.

"Of course it would have been easy for me to end my career, because this is the most serious injury I have ever had as a footballer."But I am hoping I will be back within six months.

"And I am convinced that, if I continue my rehabilitation, I still have a few good seasons left for me at Rangers."

The Croat netted three times for Rangers in 15 appearances before he was injured.

We desperately need Kranjcar back fully fit next season; he can make a real difference to our MF.

Sorry to be a doom merchant, imo,i think we may have seen the last of Kranjcar.

Im basing this on the fact that he couldnt keep a reasonable level of fitness when there was nothing wrong with him previously.

He was excellent in his last two games, totally ran the show at Inverness; "“Niko, we knew, had probably had three or four years of not being really pushed.

“The idea was to get him to nought to 30, then nought to 60, and then progress on. “You saw the impact he had coming on as sub against Kilmarnock and Motherwell, then he started against Partick and in Inverness. He was having more and more influence " (MW)

First matches he played, ive seen fitter asthmatic pit ponys.Hes now a year older and will have been out of the game for the best part of a full year.

At 33 years old ,he will need the dedication of an Andy Murray to return to being a top player after a career threating injury like he sustained.Idont think he has this in his character.

Will be very happy to be proved wrong.

He was a joy to watch and I sincerely hope he comes back fitter and stronger; but I understand your doubts.
