Rob Kiernan charged by SFA for striking St Johnstone’s Steven Anderson

Rangers set to fight SFA over two-match "punch" ban for defender Rob Kiernan

Ibrox side believed to be furious that BT Sport pundit Stephen Craigan highlighted the incident as Mark Warburton's men get set for double-header against Fir Park side.

Rangers will reject the offer of a two-game ban made to Rob Kiernan for an alleged punch on

St Johnstone’s Steven Anderson during Wednesday’s 1-1 draw.

Record Sport understands there is fury inside Ibrox that the McDiarmid incident was highlighted on BT Sport by pundit Stephen Craigan, who is in charge of Motherwell’s youth team.

And Kiernan will miss games against Well in the Scottish Cup and league on successive weekends if his appeal fails.

The flashpoint, in which Kiernan appears to strike Anderson, although Gers boss Mark Warburton says it was no more than a push, was missed by officials.

But SFA compliance officer Tony McGlennan cited Kiernan for violent conduct, which carries a two-match ban covering the next two games, irrespective of the competition, after a January 5 disciplinary hearing.

Those games are both against Well, in the Cup on January 21 and the Premiership a week later, and we understand there’s a belief Craigan’s role as a pundit while employed by a club who face them in two vital matches, is a conflict of interest.

Kiernan has until Wednesday to appeal and will do so. A principal hearing will be set for the following day.

Who are we playing on January the 28th again?
