The end of the beginning: Rangers v Celtic

MATTHEW LINDSAY

Rangers 0-2 Celtic

Rangers will be more difficult for Celtic to overcome at Ibrox than they were at Parkhead in September or Hampden in October.

Having the backing of over 40,000 of their supporters will lift Mark Warburton’s charges considerably and they should perform at a higher level than they have against Inverness Caledonian Thistle and St. Johnstone in their last two games.

But I still expect the gulf in quality between the two teams to show and the visitors to win fairly comfortably. Brendan Rodgers’s side are reliable at the back, creative in midfield and lethal up front.

Celtic will need to have a collective off day to slip up and I see little chance of that happening.

ALISON MCCONNELL

Rangers 0-3 Celtic

Difficult to overplay the significance that confidence has in this fixture. Celtic haven’t been at their best this month but have ground out the results and go to Ibrox riding high.

Brendan Rodgers can afford to be relaxed as he looks to a game that Rangers desperately need to win in order to give themselves some consolation from a season that looks likely to deliver very little.

Celtic have goals from all over the pitch – even Erik Sviatchenko got involved in the act this week – and although Tom Rogic is a miss, there are too many attacking threats for Rangers to cope with.

A comfortable afternoon is expected for the Parkhead side.

CHRIS JACK

Rangers 1-1 Celtic

Celtic have the better players and are in better form and few people would wager against Brendan Rodgers’ side leaving Ibrox without at least a point.

It is Rangers who have plenty to prove this afternoon and the stakes are high for Mark Warburton as he looks to avoid his first home league loss.

The Gers are a better outfit now than they were at Hampden and are certainly much improved from the defeat at Parkhead. Now they have to show that they have learned the lessons from those matches.

Home advantage could be key and both sides could extend their respective unbeaten runs into the New Year.

NEIL CAMERON

Rangers 0-2 Celtic

It is wrong to say form goes out the window. The stronger teams always tends to win. Even when a ‘shock’ has occurred down the years, it hasn’t been caused by a team 16 points behind the other.

Celtic are quite simply a much better side and if they turn up, as they have done most of the season, they will win. Can Rangers get a victory? Of course they can because that’s how football is but it would involve a lot of things going for them and it is most likely asking too much.

GRAEME MACPHERSON

Rangers 1-3 Celtic

Rangers haven’t lost at home for 15 months now but it’s difficult to see that record enduring into the New Year. Celtic will win the league whether they triumph at Ibrox or not but there will be a determination to keep Rangers under their heel by defeating their old rivals for the third time this season.

With this being the last outing before the winter break, there is no chance of Celtic playing within themselves or holding anything back, nor are they likely to be intimidated by the Ibrox atmosphere. If Celtic are in the mood then it is hard to see beyond a comfortable away victory.

SCOTT MULLEN

Rangers 0-3 Celtic

Despite Rangers going on an unbeaten run and some hope among their supporters that second place is there for taking beginning to build, the outcome of this game is ultimately out of their control.

If the same Celtic turn up that has been present for 95% of this season, it won't matter how well Mark Warburton’s men play.

They have shown improvement since the first league meeting when they were demolished at Ibrox, but the determined and ruthless streak in this Celtic team should be too much for them. Should.

Get that pinned up on the wall. This has the feeling of the Scottish Cup final where Jelavic scored about it. Also their last visit to Ibrox where we battered them and stopped them winning the league! You just hope this Celtic love in the press have right now provokes a reaction from our sometimes mentally weak players. Step up Rangers

I have blocked out much of the Scottish media rumblings regarding the OF games and respective standings ever since 2012. Makes you wonder they started so late.

I did expect a mauling in the Cup a few season's back, when the Scum "settled" for a 2-0 win against probably one of the "worst" Rangers teams we ever had facing them. The 5-1 defeat I still consider as a blib, as we handed it to them on a plate. They were still dominant in the 1-0 League Cup win, but we held our own. We really need to show up tomorrow and play our best people in their right positions. Still, that cold feeling in the gut does not go away.

I agree. I have a feeling about tomorrow. Let's hope we get right into them and silence these mhanky sycophantic, rebel Rangers haters!

I know 3-1 is optimistic(bearing on delusional) but it's New Year! If we win tomorrow, I will reveal that feeling........lol.

You may as well go for it now.
