Proposed parking at Ibrox

Recommended Posts

Lifted this from 'Rangersfansmediawatch' on Rangers Media forum. It has important proposed parking news for Rangers fans at Ibrox. ...

There is no doubt this will be passed by the council and local residents,It is in regards to parking in not just the surrounding streets but quite a large area including Dumbreck road,Clifford street,Brand street,Govan road and numerous other streets.

You can find a map of the areas affected here. https://www.glasgow.gov.uk/CHttpHandler.ashx?id=36288&p=0

Apparently the proposal is to give local residents permits and visitors would have to pay a one off cost of £10.

These new proposals should they pass are due to come in in August 2017 subject to consultation process.

So unless you are a resident,Have a visitors permit or disabled badge, Anyone parking their car in the above areas stand a good chance of their cars being lifted or ticketed..

Just to reiterate this is still at the proposal stage, but many of the local residents want it to come into affect and the council won't have any problems passing it for nothing more than the usual financial reasons of filling their pockets at the motorists cost.

This will cause absolute bedlam for parking in the areas on the map above and will be a huge inconvenience to supporters with no choice but to park miles away from the stadium with perhaps young children in tow.

I'll be interested to look at the details later.

Supporters have lots of choice though and £10 is not a huge inconvenience.

It is for me just to park a car. 10 pound can feed someone for at least 2 days.

Quite probably most who would be using the parking have been able to afford 400 quid for a season ticket. If they have to worry about a tenner for parking they may wish to re-priorities on the season ticket too.

That said, easy for me to say when I watch the games on TV with my online season ticket and don't have to park a car.

Many have a season ticket on a pay up basis and 20 pound a month extra cost for nothing is a lot. Better to drive to Goven or Partick and jump on the subway and leave 10 minutes earlier. There will be people stretching the bow for a season tickets and I doubt if the most are earning anywhere near your wage.

Which is absolutely fine. If people don't have the means to pay an extra 20 quid a month then they at least have options even if inconvenient.

My wage is irrelevant and my post was made without a second of consideration to my own situation... which I pretty much said in my last sentence.

It can still be contended that if that tenner is the difference between eating and not eating then they should perhaps be considering not having a season ticket. Harsh ? Sure. But we all need to live within our means
