Neil Doncaster is ousted from EPFL board

Recommended Posts

If he's been bumped for not supporting efforts to make the Champions League a closed shop then I suppose that's principled. However, it also means that he's opposed it in a cackhanded manner that's got others offside. Or maybe it's nothing to do with that and it's just that, after three years, they've realised what a useless bastard he is.

Definitely the latter.

Whatever you think of Doncaster, this is not good news at all for Scottish Football.

Probably. But the amateurs at the SFA have nobody but themselves to blame. Scottish football has been going down the toilet for umpteen years. Every 10 years or so, after yet another failure, they bring in some experts and set up another enquiry to find out why we're so crap. Most of those never see the light of day and those that do are never acted on properly. No wonder Scotland has become a nation of no-marks in world football and it's hardly surprising we're not worthy of a seat at any table.

A prime example of our heid-yins at work would be Rangers at Manchester. Instead of looking to assist our club, barriers were placed in our path.

I read, in today's London Times, that the SFA is "set" to appoint Mr Malky McKay as its National Performance Director, whatever that is, although it involves directing the national coaching strategy and structure from grass roots to the men's and women's national teams.

McKay is the former sellik player, who while managing Cardiff City, sent a series of text messages, tweets, etc, which may be characterised as racist, sexist, homophobic, and anti Semitic.

The FA investigated, and declared that the messages were a private matter, and, thus, of no concern to it. This decision was roundly condemned Kick it Out, the Jewish Leadership Council, and Women in Football, among others.

There are two points to note:

It is little wonder that Scottish Football has lost its place at the EPFL, if it is perceived as the kind of organisation which, in 2016, appoints this kind of man to a position of influence.

It seems clear that many in the SFA, an organisation charged with the governance of Scottish Football, writ large, is prepared to appoint a bigot of the first water, provided that that bigot has a connection with, and affection for, sellikfootballclub.

Whatever the reason it's a desperately poor decision, which sends out entirely the wrong message. Unfortunately the SFA is not alone in such thoughtlessness.

The fact that it is not alone in condoning bigotry is no excuse.

At the moment, it is not absolutely certain that McKay will be appointed: let us hope that he is not.

We can't possibly appoint a known racist.

Madness.

Is this the same sfa that sacked high Dallas for a joke about the Pope.

He should sue again.

A joke about child abuse, and the protection of abusers. Topical, then, topical now.
