[FT] Hearts 2 - 0 Rangers

Recommended Posts

Murray, Whyte, Green, Ashley, the Easdales...It's about time we stop feeling sorry for ourselves though and fix this club. We're not going to get anywhere signing dross from England for peanuts, nor does it look like we're going to get very far with this manager.

They are the reason we have peanuts and people need to grasp that.

But green as good as set the budget. Indeed he caused the budget that had us shopping for that level of manager.

Imagine where we might be with the 50 million green squandered/removed

david murray engineered the stream of thieving bastards that have ultimately led to this lack of finance

that doesn't explain the weak willed lack of fight we're witnessing though

Our budget is still such that we should be better than hertz or aberdeen. I agree we won't win the title as yet but we are entitled to much. Better than we saw tonight. The first half was embarrassing. We barely put two passes together

Agree fully RE the change of system but Waghorn upfront for me. In a 4-5-1 Id like to see MOH on the right with McKay on the left then Forrester and Windass in the creative central roles. Alternatively MOH on the left and Waghorn on the right with Miller or Dodoo upfront.

3-5-2 isn't possible at the moment as I don't think we have 3 centre halves fit enough. You'd have to put Wallace in the 3 which takes him out of being the wing back.

IMO,its too late in the day for all this.Systems will be for someone else sooner or later.

I repeat.....our budget is well above hertz and aberdeen. We should be better than what we endured tonight.

Whether the players don't fit the system or the system doesn't fit the players, doesn't really matter; bottom line is it's broken and needs fixed.

I think we are going to have to give up the fancy football at least till we get over the next two games and try to grind out results against Aberdeen and Hearts at Ibrox.

To that end my feeling is that we should go 4-4-2.

Tavernier must be dropped in favour of Hodson. If Hill is fit he should replace Wilson; I'm Kiernan's fiercest critic but Kiernan and Hill have been our best CB pairing. MF really is a problem. I don't think there is one man who would get in the team if we had a real choice. I would be tempted to drop Halliday AND Holt and go with something like O'Halloran, Windass (if fit) Crooks (though he showed nothing tonight, he needs some games) and McKay. Up front probably Garner and Dodoo are the best we can field at the moment.

Tynecastle has always been a tough place to go but usually we give them something to think about.

Tonight we were easily beaten by a very young Hearts team who were more eager than us, passed better than us, finished better than us and were coached better than us. It was an embarrassment.

We had one shot on target in 90 minutes and that was a weak effort.

If the manager won't change tactics or personnel, then he needs to consider his position.

When a 4-3-3 don't have the ball they revert to a 4-5-1. The only difference is about 15 yards of field position of the wingers. They are basically the same systems but the wingers push up when they have the ball and drop deep when the opposition have the ball. The fact is you still only ever have 1 striker in the middle of the goal.

Agree with much of that. The best centre half pairing has to be Hill and Senderos. The latters confidence is shot after his debut but he has done much more in his career that Kiernan and Wilson who are going backwards. Senderos just needs a run of games and he can adapt just like Hill did who started poorly first few games but started to come good. Hodson, Senderos, Hill and Wallace may be what is required for a few games at the back.

I repeat, all this kinda stuff will happen----it will be somebody else who will have to instigate it,Our manager has stated that he WONT.

Our budget is above Hearts because we have twice or thrice their crowds and all. We paid an average of 125k per player in this current squad, and you only get a certain quality for that. How often does this need repeating? Obviously, everyone is invited to come up with his wishlist at the same price level, i.e. veteran or not-so-veteran freebies.

At the end of the day, Hearts are one of the in-form sides at the moment, while we are toiling badly. A perfect time for them to play us, very inopportune for us to present as lacklustre a display as this one, apparently (as I did not see it). Somesuch has happened before and will happen again.

It does have some good, as it is a wake-up call for all those who still thought that "us being Rangers" means that we have a right to win and dominate the rest of the league, no matter the actual quality of the personnell on display. Likewise,it is a stark signal to the players that they must improve, or else. And finally, it might be a blessing in disguise, as the board will note that certain things need to be done in January.

BTW, what's all this rubbish about worst performances. If people watch the game for 40 or 60odd years, they sure have not forgotten our displays under McCoist and McDowell. And I know without having seen any clips from tonight that this game was sure not as bad as the ones in those days.

NB: I do concur (likewise without having seen the game) with the notion that we should change our style of play according to the people we have and the teams we play. Likewise, as has been said, we need a leader on the park. Would be hard pressed to remember the last time we really had one.
