Rangers v Dundee match preview

Recommended Posts

That is exactly what Forrester brings, a cutting edge. Or, let's say "more of a cutting edge". For he likes a shot every now and then, even from an odd position. The rest bar Holt were always looking to pass the chance on to the next player rather than having a go themselves.

Another thing re the goal: play people in their natural positions. Left winger Dodoo sends a cross from the left wing onto the head of Forrester, who is a left-winger as well, but also a shadow striker. And he was exactly where he needed today.

MotM a hard call between Holt and Garner, so I give it to them both.

Thought we played really well today, totally in charge and well deserved goal. Signs that Garner is starting to gel and I'm sure that once he gets a couple of goals he will go on to be prolific.

Agreed. Thought we played really well, became vulnerable as we pushed harder 2nd half but thoroughly deserved result. Also agree Re Garner, thought he had his best game with us - tenacious, buzzed around, created chances, almost scored a few times. He was a terror to Dundee's defenders today. Was my MOTM, with Windass fairly close behind.

Possession: Rangers 70% - Dundee 30%

Shots: Rangers 18 - Dundee 4

Shots on target: Rangers 7 - Dundee 1

Corners Rangers 14 - Dundee 3

We badly need to start turning that into goals. Do that and we will be on the way.

"If we do that, then we'll be in a good place."

We were very close to being in a bad place just now though, very close.

Still, onwards and - hopefully - upwards

As an aside, it was an absolute pleasure to listen to Kevin Thomson today co-commentating alongside Tom Miller.

He is a far, far better commentator that Sutton. Obviously prefers Rangers but also showed great balance and was fair in his commentary. Hopefully RFC bring him back pretty often.

He just opened his own Academy too - good luck to him with his future endeavours - and hopefully I will get the pleasure of listening to him on RTV frequently in the future.

Whilst that its true Steve, the reality is that had we taken our chances (which is exactly what JFK says) then Dundee would have been completely out of the game before the half-time whistle went.

We were much closer to "turning chances into goals" than Dundee were to putting us in a very bad place.

I wont dispute they had an excellent chance near the end - but that has to also be put into context in terms of the overall game, which we absolutely dominated and should have been 3 or 4 up before Dundee even got a sniff of goal.

Context and balance are needed.

Without a doubt the problem is getting the ball in the back of the net because statistic wise everything else seems to be impressive. Chances are that we have more shots and infinitely more corners than any other team in the league.

An aside is that Dundee now replace Ross County at the bottom of the pile. Impressive win for County away at St Johnstone where not only did they win 4-2 they actually earned it having more possession and more shots than St Johnstone did. Might put some more perspective on our own struggles to beat County on their own patch.
