Dave King: We'll back Mark Warburton in January window

Recommended Posts

DAVE KING has vowed to back Mark Warburton in January — but expects “significant returns”.

The Rangers chairman spoke as the club announced a £3.3million loss in their last financial year.

King revealed Gers’ budget dwarves every club barring Celtic and expects Warburton’s men to be challenging for honours.

He said: “The main aim is to finish at the top of the SPFL Premiership while also targeting success in the domestic cup competitions.

“The board has provided a playing budget, vastly superior to all but one other club, which should see significant returns.

“The ultimate goal is to return Rangers to the very top as quickly as possible.

“The club now has an executive and footballing management team that understands Rangers must always be competitive.

“Our fans understand the difficulties that have been overcome and the challenges that still lie ahead.

“Their unwavering loyalty has been the one constant through these years of change. This support is vital if Rangers is to regain a position of domestic dominance and re-enter the European arena.

“No matter what we do in the boardroom or on the pitch, nothing will be achieved without our supporters, whose high expectations must always be taken into account.

“That’s why the directors have supported the management team each time the transfer windows open.

“Rangers have 11 new players despite my statements that we only anticipated five to seven additions.

“This club cannot stand still or lose ground and the board will continue to back the manager.

“Plans are being put in place to continue the recruitment process to meet the greater challenges that lie ahead.

“This board will not rest until Rangers is reunited with regular triumphs.”

The club’s turnover was £22.2m, with operating expenses of £24.9m.

King will lead the Gers AGM on November 25 at Glasgow’s Clyde Auditorium.

I have always had faith that King will deliver to the best of his capabilities considering financial constraints. Aside from that I still feel even the current squad is easily capable of coasting to a minimum second place finish in the league.

They have a tendency to totally dominate for a half but stutter to finish it off in the final third. If we can just solve these problems and dominate for the entire match rather than just a half and start putting away the barrow load of chances we're already on our way even before January strengthening.

Despite everything we're still only 3 points away from second spot and in this league can easily coast away from the chasing pack if we just iron out these problems. Every game I keep expecting it to all start clicking since the signs have been there that they can totally dominate and kill off matches with goals. Hopefully Kilmarnock will be crushed in a scintillating display.

" Rangers have halved their annual losses to £3.3million – but remain dependent on the ongoing financial support of shareholders to keep the club afloat.

Ibrox chairman Dave King and the so-called Three Bears – Douglas Park, George Letham and George Taylor – have already forwarded the club £2.9m on loans this month and have promised another £850,000 in March to see it through to the end of the season.

The interest-free, unsecured loans with investors now amount to £10.025m, although repayment isn't due until December 2017.

The financial results for the year ending June 30, which were released on Friday night, showed the Ibrox club's losses were down considerably on the £7.5m figure for 2015.

Turnover also increased to £22.2m to the year ending June 2016, up almost £6m on the 12 months previously. However, the club's wage bill for the current campaign is also up 60 per cent at £10.3m. "

With transfers it will be another "wait and see" - game. We can want and wish all we want, if the players are not available or willing to come, it is all in vein. You would hope that we have cast our net farther this time around. Bundesliga 2 or 3, some Scandinavian leagues, the Czech Republic or Slovakia wouldn't be bad locations to trawl for seasoned pros or talent.

very significant quote IMO

Yes. We already have the budget in place. So which pieces of the puzzle are missing? Do we need better signings, a better manager or both?

DK is putting the poor performances squarely at MW's door, rightly

he's been provided with IMO huge money and wasted it - so far - MW keeps saying its early in the season, players settling etc. - fair enough

but lets have it right , this team have been stinking this season so far and saying we've been showing improvement game on game is treating people with contempt IMO.
