Kieran Tierney out for two months with ankle ligament damage

Recommended Posts

CROCKED Celtic starlet Kieran Tierney is facing at least two months out.

SunSport Online revealed last night the brilliant young left back had suffered ankle ligament damage in training.

And after scan results came in, Celtic later confirmed Scotland kid Tierney, 19, won’t play again this year.

It’s a huge blow for Tierney, Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers and Scotland boss Gordon Strachan, who has already lost first choice left-back Andy Robertson for next month’s World Cup clash with England.

Tierney had immediately been ruled out of today’s Premiership showdown at Aberdeen.

Now, though, he will also definitely miss the remaining three Champions League group stage ties.

Gutted Tierney will also miss the Betfred Cup Final against the Dons, and at least TEN more league games including the Hogmanay Old Firm derby at Ibrox.

Tierney was rested for last Wednesday’s 4-0 win over Ross County, and was replaced by Emilio Izaguirre who will now get an extended run in the side.

Izaguirre looked certain to to be on his way out of Celts in January, but suddenly, he’s got an opportunity to prove himself to Rodgers.

It’s the first major blow for academy graduate Tierney within his sensational rise to stardom over the last 12 months.

But Tierney showed his strength of character two years ago when he made a rapid recovery from a horror broken ankle — just as he came into the top team picture at Celts.

He made his competitive debut for Scotland in the 3-0 defeat to Slovakia in Trnava and was certain to start against England.

Now Tierney and Robertson’s absence has potentially left the door open for Rangers skipper Lee Wallace to come in for the Wembley clash, with Stephen Kingsley and Graeme Shinnie also in the frame.
