Time to right a few wrongs - Rangers v Celtic

Recommended Posts

No thanks.

I had low expectations for today but after watching that match I think we should beat them in both home fixtures.

Caveat: there is still some progress required with our attack.

Fair enough, I'll go with that. Ibrox should be a nightmare for all teams to play at.

He was the wrong side of him in the lead up to the goal.

Though it should be said that Hill had his best game in a Rangers shirt today.

Don't get me started on Kiernan.

Either are limited, one by age and one by ability, but we win and lose as a team and today, despite some hairy moments, they stood their man. As for the goal, I think we all know that we might have conceded more had it not been for themtwo. And a lot more people of days gone by have been knackered in an OF cup game long before the 80s minute mark.

It was a solid enough team effort today, with the main points of lament laying further up the park rather than with the defence.

I'd go with Dodoo - Garner - O'Halloran in midweek, added by Forrester in left midfield.

Europa league is the last thing we need. We'd start with qualifiers not long after the season ends and if we got through them (which I very much doubt that we would) we'd have Thursday night games holding us back next season. Afaiac, we have to stop them winning the league asap. This would screw up pre-season and then potentially the season itself.

We're never going to win the league without some finances and as it stands the Europa league is the best financial avenue available to us. Having little money will hold us back permanently far less next season.

Watched Aberdeen yesterday and some of the St Johnston v Dundee game today. We have got to finish above that level of mediocrity.

It shouldn't be forgotten that Aberdeen, 'Scotland's second force', fawned over for three years by the media, were outplayed on their own patch by Rangers.

Yeah, but the point remains. I cannot criticise that Rangers team for lack of effort today, but they're simply a level below the quality of Celtic.

That's so depressing a thought; moreover the implications of it are that we will be years, years, playing catch up.

Did you see the celebrations at the goal? Their players looked pretty pumped to me.

(Of course there should have been bookings for running to the crowd.)

That doesn't mean they wanted it more though. Had we been the team to score our players would have had the exact same reaction.

That's a fair post.

And I agree about Dodoo, I think he's shown enough now that the manager can start putting a bit of faith in him.

Not necessarily. A single close season made the difference for them and it can do the same for us with some smart transfer activity.

Questions definitely need to be asked. Warburton has been very disappointing this season, but aside from one player he has been given peanuts to spend. And next season there's a good chance we'll be competing in Europe, which is going to lead to immediate embarrassment unless substantial quality is added.

I think our performance in the SC semi actually hurt us. There would have been a feeling that we didn't need to spend that much to compete seeing as we outplayed them considerably that day. But because of that we seem to have been complacent in recruitment - sadly our two marquee signings plus our most expensive signings look like the ones that have been the worst, for differing reasons.

Gilks, Hodson and Windass all looked decent enough today - though Windass didn't seem fit.

But the last two games against Celtic should be a wake up call to Dave King and the Board - strangely enough I think we only need a couple of top signings, one in defence and a goal-scoring striker. Though I wouldn't be averse to a couple more of the same.

Hodson staked a claim to be first-choice RB for the rest of the season today IMO.

Agree with that and, IMHO, the right side of the pitch looked more potent in both directions with him at RB and Tav playing ahead of him.

Tav doesn't deserve to be dropped IMO.
