Niko Kranjcar could be sidelined through injury for the rest of the season, according to a report.

The Scottish Sun claim that the Rangers midfielder picked up a knee injury during training on Tuesday and there are concerns that he has serious ligament damage.

The report details that the 32-year-old collapsed in agony and was stretchered off the pitch in the bizarre training ground accident.

It is reported that the Croatian will wait to undergo scans but a cruciate injury would see him miss at least six months, meaning he would be ruled out for the majority of the season.

Kranjcar’s injury will come as a huge blow for Rangers, who face Old Firm rivals Celtic in the Scottish League Cup semi-final on Sunday.

The central midfielder was expected to play in the highly anticipated clash, as Rangers look to avenge the 5-1 defeat from the league meeting in September.

Controversial character Joey Barton remains suspended by the club following his training ground bust-up and leaves manager Mark Warburton short of midfield options against Celtic.

Kranjcar has recently settled in the Rangers side and made 15 appearances this season, scoring three goals and supplying three assists.

The Croatian moved to the Scottish giants this summer and joined with vast top-level experience after 15 years at the top for club and country.

He has previously played at English duo Tottenham and Portsmouth in the Premier League, as well Dinamo Zagreb, Hajduk Split, Rapid Vienna, Dynamo Kiev and most recently American side New York Cosmos.

If he done it on Tuesday, why no mention of it in Press Conferences which were Wednesday and yesterday?

Same happened when Rossiter was injured with the manager saying we had a fully fit squad when, in fact, Jordan was out for up to six weeks.

There was no point putting this info out there in the run up to a big OF game, giving the opposition a boost. Keep it quiet if you can and let them prepare to play against Nico if at all possible.

Obviously someone in the squad has went blabbing their mouth off to Andy Devlin, to the detriment of our chances on Sunday.

Out for the season is grim, he was the one summer signing that I was really looking forward to - if he could get fit and in form. With Barton easing out the door, the remaining transfers for this season are a lot more low key - even more so with the slow start for our most expensive signing, fee wise, as well as the rarely fit Rossiter.

However, we have seen an exciting glimpse of Windass, so maybe he and maybe Dodoo can make an impact.

It does look like we'll maybe need to spend a bit of money in January if we want to make second place a bit more deterministic...

Heard it this morning before getting newspapers.

My son works with the wife of a member of the backroom squad and she let him know of the news it is a disaster as in the last couple of games he was beginning to show us his class.

Wonder if he will have the desire to return to football after this.
