pete 2,499
Chelsea have signed a kit sponsorship contract with Nike worth £900m over 15 years, the second biggest deal in the Premier League and biggest in the club's history. The Blues had announced they were parting company with adidas at the end of the season in May, after the pair decided to terminate their current deal six years early. Adidas' shirt deal was worth £30million annually - a figure that has been doubled by their American sportswear rivals, despite the fact Chelsea are not competing in Europe this season. JFK-1 1,693
To me Chelsea are something of an artificial entity propped up by a billionaire who don't quite merit this deal. Man Utd on the other hand are a whole different animal who like Rangers would be a big name regardless of who sits in the boardroom. In that respect Chelsea would be no more high profile than say Everton if not for the sugar daddy factor. Gribz 829
The best thing about Chelsea in the last 10 years has been their Adidas kits, they have been by far the best in the league.

You might have been right once but they got big at the right time and are massive globally now.

Not that well supported in their home nation but massive in the Asian continent and probably in Russia thanks to Abramovich too. It is a great deal for them because clubs like Liverpool and Arsenal should be achieving better deals than Chelsea based on their fan bases, but fair play. 900 million over 15 years - Abramovich will spunk that on a pile of dross soon enough

FUBAR Chelsea were a top 4 side before RA bought them and had a squad full of top internationalists. They're a massive club and that's not going to change.
Gribz 829
They are huge in SE Asia, Chelsea tops everywhere but that glory hunting IMO. They were no way this big 15 years ago and beyond. Man Utd, Liverpool and Arsenal are in a league of their own with support here. Chelsea were a top cup team and a top 6 contender prior to RA buying them, nothing more.

They're a massive club and that's not going to change. They are a new kid on the block. Abramovich bought them at the end of the 2002-2003 season and they had finished 4th... so you are technically correct. However, in the 3 seasons prior to that they finished 6th twice and 5th once. And in the 10 seasons prior to his purchase they were in the top 4 3 times.... so hardly a common occurrence for them to finish in the top 4. They weren't even considered a big club when Abramovich took them over. They were nothing more than a middling team,. Sleeping but not a sleeping giant. They have become massive because of Abramovich's money. Of that there can be little doubt.

SBS is playing with league positions to justify his position. Pre-Abramovich and Chelsea weren't even considered a big team. Arsenal and Spurs both were far, far bigger London clubs.
Crimson Dynamo 128
Chelsea started making their mark in the mid 90's when the Italians went to them. Before that they were also rans.
