BEARGER 1,830
Hi Bearger, I believe you have asked the question about why we dropped the Saltire from our Flags on a match day, I can assure you this is not the case. If you look at the attached picture which was taken at the Ross County game 16 September, you will see that the Saltire is there, and the reason it wasn’t there on Saturday was we are awaiting a new flag pole, as the other one snapped, hopefully it should be sorted for our next Home game Wednesday 26th October. pete 2,499
Yes you can ... http://scottishflagtrust.com/the-scottish-flag-trust/faq/ Is anybody entitled to fly the Scottish flag? Yes. In Scots Heraldry, 1956, the then Lord Lyon gave the following guidance:- “The Cross of St Andrew is the flag which any Scotsman (or woman) is entitled to fly or wear as evidence of his (or her) national identity or patriotism. This is also the proper flag to fly on a Scottish church”. Yes indeed you are right with the St Andrews flag. It is the Lion Rampant that should only be worn by certain people when representing Scotland. My stupidity in not knowing the St Andrews cross as the Saltire.
SteveC 150
Re Derry's Walls. Surely it is two sides being represented: "The cry was:"no surrender" is met by the response: "Surrender or you'll die" At least that's how I have always presumed it to be. On another note Gersnet is not necessarily representative here. Had some of the requests for dropping or rewriting such songs been made at, say, Sheffield (last away game I was at!).... Well.... Let's just say it'd have been a short conversation.
boabie 230
Not sure why common sense should be trolling. It's got bugger all to do with a football game between Rangers and Partick Thistle. Anyway, speaking of satires, I was watching the Champions League "follow all games" station in midweek and one night they kept cutting to them v. City and I thought I saw a large saltire at one point. Was I mistaken? I thought saltires were despised, if not banned, there. You did indeed see a Saltire being waved at their match. I noticed it myself. It's probably allowed now due to the manks being the standard bearers for every "persecuted minority". Protest against Westminster will be reason enough for that mob.
boabie 230
Just a throw in the air. Would the club not need to get permission to show the saltire. I have no idea what this was about to be honest. Was it a planned show by the club? To show Royal colours you need to get permission as an organisation. I think you're maybe confusing the Saltire with the Royal Standard Pete. I believe permission is required for the monarchs flag to be flown.
boabie 230
Honestly can't see any complaints being made regards flying the Saltire at Ibrox? Maybe someone took it home with them after the QOTS game and forgot to bring it back? Saltires were waved in the majority at Ibrox before the trouble started in Ireland. The Union Flag took over after that time. Probably the rise of the SNP sees it perceived by some as being somewhat toxic at our stadium - certainly I got criticised by a couple of fellow bears for taking one to a euro match a few years ago. I waved a saltire with "Rangers FC" across it at Ibrox from 1961 onwards. It also went to Wembley with me 4 internationals in a row.
boabie 230
It's a bad symbol to use in my opinion. Salty old seadogs know of the negative connotations that it carries. Hope that the club never uses it again. In fact I'll email them later on and warn them not to use it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_maritime_signal_flags Also perhaps admin can consider banning use of the Saltire in here. I'm an old salty seadog RS. At sea it is not being used as a national flag, rather as a signal flag. I used to have the signal flags for my initials embroidered onto my dress shirts.

boabie 230
There can't be any other room in the world with more than this room... I remember going to their midden in the 60's and being totally startled by the fact their "saltire", flown as league winners, was green rather than blue. I asked my dad why they were not flying the flag of the country they played in. Later the green, white and orange flags raised other questions.
