Celtic call in cops over fears 'spies' were filming secret Champions League training

Recommended Posts

CELTIC bosses called in cops yesterday over fears 'spies' were filming a secret training session ahead of tonight’s vital Champions League clash.

The Hoops’ security staff were angry a group of onlookers refused requests to move on as players warmed up at Lennoxtown ahead of the showdown with Israeli side Hapoel Be’er Sheva.

The group were spotted in a secluded spot outside the multi-million pound complex’s perimeter fence yesterday morning.

But police ruled they could do nothing to move on the group - as they were committing no criminal act and were standing on public land.

A source said: “Celtic wanted the training session to be private and asked the group to leave.

“Security staff didn’t want anyone filming the session.

“They’d ask the group to move on and they’d refused so they called in police.

“But police don’t have powers to move anyone on for filming if they’re standing on public land.

“They weren’t within the private grounds of the training complex, so it wasn’t a police matter. Police advised them there was nothing they could do."

Another source added: “It is unusual for people not linked to the club to be watching Celtic training.”

It’s not known if the decision to call in police was linked to how important Celtic’s Champions League play off is to the club.

The Hoops would make more than £20million from entering the group stage of the competition.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman confirmed they were called to the training ground by the club’s security staff at about 11am.

She added: “When they attended they observed a few youths, who were watching the training session.

“No criminality was established and advice was given.”

Celtic were unavailable for comment.

It's surprising that a club with such sharp legal minds among the following hordes were so stupid as to think the police can do anything about people standing on public land. And then again maybe not so surprising.

Maybe they are used to getting their own way. Hard to credit that, I know, but.......
