Hearts fan 'tried to confront' Celtic star Scott Sinclair

The incident at Tynecastle Stadium happened after the winger scored the winner on his debut.

Police are investigating after a Hearts fan attempted to "confront" Celtic player Scott Sinclair as he celebrated scoring the winner.

The incident happened at the SPFL Premiership match at Tynecastle Stadium on Sunday afternoon after the winger made his debut for the Parkhead club.

Footage from the match appeared to show a Hearts supporter trying to grab the 27-year-old as he ran to celebrate his winning goal in the 2-1 victory with travelling Celtic fans.

It is believed the former Manchester City and Aston Villa player did not suffer any injury during the incident.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Police in Edinburgh are investigating after a supporter attempted to confront a Celtic player within Tynecastle Stadium on Sunday August 7. Enquiries are ongoing."

The Tynecastle club released a statement on Monday in relation to the incident.

It read: "Hearts is aware of an alleged incident following a goal scored by Scott Sinclair during the Celtic match at Tynecastle on Sunday August 7.

"The club have been in discussion with Police Scotland and this matter is now the subject of a criminal investigation.

"The club will work with the police and share all relevant information as necessary."

Maybe he shouldnt have ran behind the goal just in front of the Hearts fans then :seal:

Exactly. Maybe Sinclair should be up in front of the compliance officer for "actions potentially inciteful of a riot" - you know... similar to Halliday fist-pumping in the cenre circle after a Rangers goal possibly inciting a riot.......

That was no offside, as there is no relevant (i.e. Celtic) player in front of the keeper, distracting him. It would have been offside if the player had worn a different colour though. Clear as mud.

BTW, it is equally hilarious and sad that specsavers is doing the ads for Scottish referees.

Sinclair should not have been on the park at all. That he scored the winner (a script made in heaven) only compounds that and should make any decision by the CO more severe. Remember how they got ballistic about that Legia player being on the pitch for 2 minutes in a game the Scum had lost fair and square? How I wish the Poles will meet the Scum again.

Technically it isn't cheating if there was contact.

In football there's always a chance of a bit of contact, which does not necessarily mean a foul. But to deliberately go down rather than from the contact as the reason, is certainly cheating to me. If the rules differ, then I think the rules are not in the spirit of sporting behaviour, and therefore not fit for purpose.
