Dave King gives an update.

Recommended Posts

I think it would help matters if we as fans, shareholders etc, knew exactly how much we actually owe Dave King.

It would indeed be nice to know - and the financial statements, when released should show just how much investment there has been, at least up until the financial year end, which was June 30th. The half-yearly financials to December 31st will then show anything during the transfer window as well as the increase in wages.

WE could then have a say as to whether or not we want anymore soft loans from him.

The fans, like it or not, have very little to no say in whether the Club gets soft loans from Dave King or not. The fans shareholding isn't sufficient enough to block any soft loans being provided by the major shareholder.

We could say "thanks but no thanks".It cant always be his decision to make surely?

We could say it, but it wont make much difference. No, it isn't his decision to make - the Board of Directors will be the ones to decide whether or not they would accept Dave King's offers of soft loans, or offers from T3B or any other faction - as was seen when one of the fan groups tried to donate 500k (IIRC) to the Club and the Club rejected it.

The one thing that I AM comfortable with though is that if Dave King offers the Club a soft loan then the reason he is offering it is for the greater good of the Club, to make essential repairs or provide investment into an area which needs it. Had we been offered soft loans from Ashley, Green or Whyte I would have been tying down the chairs at Ibrox to make sure the soft loans weren't being secured against everything we own. In other words, I trust that Dave King providing soft loans would be to the benefit of the CLUB whereas any soft loans provided by the three stooges I mentioned would undoubtedly have been to the benefit of them themselves.

As you say, this dosh is gonna have to be repaid sometime.

Not necessarily. The intent has always been for a share issue - these soft loans don't necessarily need to be repaid, they can be converted into share capital at some point, which means the Club keep the cash they have already received and the loan provider(s) receive shares in exchange.

Every Rangers fan knew last year that the two centre halfs needed replaced. Before we bought another million midfielders/wingers, we had to get this right. No team wins a top tier title that cannot defend. Ever.

If we have blown the budget on Barton/Nico/Rossiter/Hodson/Dodoo/Gilks/Windass/Crooks then the management will have failed in their duty. I dont think we have blown the budget and that we have enough available to acquire a decent quality CH.

I am not sure after taking on board the Brentford fans, and seeing first hand last season, that MW would know a centre half if he was standing beside him! Perhaps he should delegate this to his assistant.

He needs to get this sorted out quickly. I know it, we on Gersnet know it, the fans that were there on Saturday know it, and the dog in the street knows it. Any chance of the title depends on it.

We've been trying to sign defenders but our top three targets have turned us down.

It seems to me our fourth choice will be a loan signing.

Thanks for your replies Craig. One thing on the last point, what if DK decides he want very little or even no more shares.

Can he do that, cos if he does we could be saddled with debt for a long, long time.

Do we just have to trust him on this.?(that he will take shares instead of hard cash).

Should we lock the forum for a month or so?

People are quite entitled to give their opinions now, and they will change on a weekly basis, no doubt.

2 weeks ago, most were purring about Nico, and now there are doubts creeping in. It's just part of being a fan.

We enjoy giving our opinions based on what we have seen recently. It's why we use the forum.

Sorry BD and agreeing folks, that's just turning the argument on its head, spiced with a bit "free speech".

It is not about debate as such, but the way it is being done and how some of the topics are being discussed. As IF people had not seen similar countless times before (and now that things can change and have changed quickly) and footie has been about for a couple of months only. And if it were but a simle banterous discussion about the odd game, we'd not see this level of stern debate and apparent seriousness in these threads.

He could do that for sure. However, if he did (highly unlikely) then you would have to think that any share issue would include the repayment of the soft loans he has already provided.

Reliably informed that out of our three main targets, as well as missing out on Mariappa, Bernardo Espinosa preferred to go to Boro and Eitan Tibi decided to sign a new contract with Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Oh aye, I remember the names now.

At least we should be somewhat comforted that the management team recognize the need for another CB.

Mariappa hasn't signed for anyone in the interim so I do wonder if his wage demands have altered since. :)
