Tavernier Extends Contract

Recommended Posts

RANGERS are delighted to confirm that James Tavernier has today signed a one year extension to his contract with the club, taking his new deal to the summer of 2019.

The English full back joined the club last summer from Wigan along with Martyn Waghorn and he enjoyed an excellent first season at the Light Blues.

The 24 year old played in 50 games for the Gers throughout his debut season and scored fifteen goals, including his strike against Peterhead in the Challenge Cup final which won both Rangers’ Goal of the Season as voted for by fans and the SPFL Goal of the Season.

Last season he also broke the club record previously held by John Greig for the most goals scored by a defender in a single season.

For the second season in a row, Tavernier scored the opening goal of the competitive season, having notched a free kick against Hibernian last term and then another great strike against Motherwell last week.
