Rangers boss Mark Warburton to extend Ibrox stay

Recommended Posts

Great News! But why does the article have to drift and maintain into the Tav and Wag non-story?

Good news and it will hopefully help settle squad as the games approach.

The TavWag angle is obviously not a "non-story" and is what will always happen at football clubs.

Their agent(s) may have been responsible for getting it into the press last week.

Honestly, while this is all interesting, one way (Warburton) or another (Tav & Wags), it's rather pointless too. People who have contracts running for a couple of years or more need not to sign extensions, fine if they do, shrug of the shoulder if they don't. Both players had fine seasons for us in the Championship, we shall see how they cope with the real thing and REAL Glasgow pressure. They might become smashing hits, or their standards will be exposed. Just an observation, BTW. Right now, IMHO, a contract extension means more money if someone happens by in January, should either or both of them start to shine again.

Warburton ... while it is good to have him and even better if he's there for longer, we shouldn't likewise fool ourselves. If the teams ends up on a poor run and lags behind in the league and drops out of the cups, guess what will happen? We had enough "no Plan B" discussions last season. And then ... mind you ... a longer contract may come back to haunt us.

Again, just objective observations without the Blue glasses on. As a Bear, I'm over the moon that he's staying.

Great news. The best signing of the summer without a doubt.

Regarding Tav/Wag, let's see how they do in the top league before offering them an early pay rise.

I agree but disagree if that makes sense. It depends on what they were brought in on. If they were brought in on Championship wages then they deserve a step up. It depends what is written in their contract. If it states it should be revised per season or level then it is a matter of finding a level both agree on. Rangers wouldn't be doing a good job if they accepted the first offer.:)

Re Tav/Waggy I could understand it if they were asking after a good first half of the season and looked sharp in the top division. Also waggy missed the end of the season through injury.

Two years left on their contracts, let's see their form in with the big boys before contract extensions/wage increases.

The good thing about this though is both(and all players)will have to perform well if they want a move elsewhere!
