Dave King Response #12 - THE TICKETING POLICY

Recommended Posts

RANGERS Chairman Dave King recently invited supporters to send in questions and below you can read the 12th part in the series as he addresses the topics raised by fans:

THE TICKETING POLICY AND THE IMPACT OF TICKET REQUIREMENTS FOR AWAY FANS:

A number of questions were directed at understanding the Club’s ticket policy and the likely availability of tickets on match days for supporters who are not season-ticket holders. I hope this note will assist our supporters in gaining a better understanding on the considerations in play when allocating tickets and how these considerations are dealt with by the Club.

Now that we are back in the Premiership there will be a greater demand for tickets at Ibrox for away supporters and it is important this is handled fairly, and in accordance with the reciprocity arrangements we have with other clubs. This ensures our supporters are accommodated at their grounds.

The number of season tickets we can sell is restricted by the fact that we give Celtic the entire Broomloan Stand for Old Firm games, even though some season-ticket holders have seats in that area. We sell season tickets for the Broomloan Stand with the guarantee of a ticket for the Celtic game. Therefore, we need to ensure that we keep enough seats available to re-seat those fans for Old Firm games (mainly in the corner between the Sandy Jardine and Broomloan stands and in the Club Deck.)

This means we have to hold back on selling season tickets in the areas we need to keep available for this re-seating exercise. Consequently seats are available for match-day tickets for non-Old Firm games for fans who don’t have season tickets.

We are presently doing the final calculations based on our overall seating configuration (including revised hospitality offerings.) Very broadly, we believe the maximum number of season tickets that could be sold is circa 43500 and, based on current sales, there is a reasonable likelihood that we will reach this total – which will be a Club record by a small margin. That will mean there will be no tickets available whatsoever on match day for the Celtic games with availability of up to a few thousand for other games, depending on the level of away-team support. These tickets will be dealt with on a “first come-first served” basis in the week leading up to the game once we know the ticket requirements of the away club.

As regards where we house the away support, we approach this on two levels;

Celtic games

Some of our supporters have difficulty with the fact that Celtic fans receive a whole stand at Ibrox, whereas our fans are in a predominantly corner section at Celtic Park. However, this is largely due to the physical structure of both stadia. In reality – and by agreement – both teams receive the same number of tickets for away games.

The strong safety and security advice from the police, which is supported by our own security team, is that we should continue with the present arrangement as this is the safest allocation of tickets from a segregation point of view and, most importantly, it is the basis upon which we have been awarded our Safety Certificate.

Other away teams

Due to the large number of season tickets sold, it looks likely that away fans of all other clubs will receive approximately 1,000 tickets for the area between the Sandy Jardine and Broomloan Stands.

Looks like we are getting close to 43,500 ST sales which would be an incredible achievement without any half-season books etc. I knew we would cave to police demands and ensure we kept the full Broomie for our filthy guests to wreck when they come calling on Hogmanay (or whenever they move it to, as it certainly wont go ahead on Hogmanay), which is a pity as if we could sell 45K ST books then we should be allowed to sell them, giving the filth the same 1000 tickets as all other clubs, and accepting that we would only get the same number of overpriced tickets for the Glitterdome.

I agree TB, though appreciate many travelling Bears like to follow follow at Parkhead.

For me it would be a small price to pay having fewer seats there in order to keep the tramps away from Ibrox in as many numbers as possible.

What Dave King has stated regarding ST's and games against them, is completely contradictory to what John Gilligan said at RST agm.

Agreed, but I knew as soon as he said it that the Police would come calling to tell our Directors that they run the game in this country and we will do what we are told to do in our own stadium.

This is the first disagreement i have had with Dave King and the board, since they took over.

Seams to me the board have took the easy option on this,or the appeasement option?

I simple don't believe our safety certificate is reliant on allowing 8k Tims in the Broomloan, yet we can cut all other away fans allocation?

Also you can't tell me Rangers couldn't give them the thousand tickets, that Hearts and Aberdeen are going to be given in the corner. Then sell out the rest of Ibrox with season ticket holders at over forty thousand, and the rest of tickets going on open sale to Rangers fans.

It also could simply be the Old Firm is open for business again? Which is ironic as the Tims did and are doing their level best to kill our club off.

It is utter madness for a club to stop selling ST's to its own fans to accommodate rival fans.

I agree but I also see the selfish point of view of fans who want to preserve the best atmosphere you get as a travelling fan which is when we are winning at the midden. These guys (and I was one of them myself for many years) would rather deny a few thousand Bears and kids the chance to buy ST for Ibrox so they can give the scum the best part of 50 notes. I must be getting old because I see how stupid a position that is now!
