THE Scotland striker was a free agent after leaving Sunderland and had been linked with the Scottish Champions and Greek side AEK Athens but has penned a deal with the Owls.

SCOTLAND striker Steven Fletcher has signed a deal with Championship side Sheffield Wednesday.

The 29-year-old had been linked with a move to Celtic and Greek side AEK Athens had shown an interest in the former Hibs man.

Fletcher was released by Sunderland last month having spent the second half of last season on loan at Marseille and has now signed a deal with the side who lost out in the Championship play-off final last season.

Fletcher partnered up with incoming Chelsea star Michy Batshuayi during his time in France and was popular with the Ligue 1 side's supporters for his physical style.

The forward has cost over £20 million in transfer fees during his career as he moved from Burnley to Wolves before arriving at Sunderland and will now join a team who narrowly missed out on the Premier League last season.

Fletcher could link up with former Celtic striker Gary Hooper as the Owls look for a return to the top flight for the first time in 17 years.

Past his sell buy date

When you seem to be more interested in the amount of horse power in your garage, than the amount of goals you score on the pitch then you are on the downward slope.
