Hampden riots: Four men arrested, police warn more to come

Recommended Posts

FOUR more men have been arrested after the Hampden football riots in May.

Yesterday officers targeted homes in Glasgow, Renfrewshire and Edinburgh and arrested four men aged 23, 24, 46 and 50 in connection with the Scottish Cup Final disorder on May 21.

The behaviour of some fans at the match, which saw Hibs beat Rangers 3-2, was branded a disgrace and some said it would set Scottish football back years.

Rangers players and backroom staff were allegedly assaulted by Hibs fans, who also goaded Rangers supporters.

Violent clashes erupted between the two sides which had to be broken up by mounted police.

The latest spate of arrests brings the total number to 38, with police warning of more to come.

Detective Superintendent Kenny Graham who is leading the investigation, said: “This investigation is extensive and involves a significant number of people.

"My officers remain committed to identifying and arresting those involved in the violence and disorder that occurred on 21 May.

"As our investigation progresses, there will be further arrests and continued police action to track down those responsible.

"I would ask if anyone has any information or knowledge about people involved or for anyone with information, including footage or images, to contact us.”

The men have been arrested for alleged assault and disorder, and are due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court today.
