Ex-Hibs and Rangers midfielder Kevin Thomson quits Tranent

Kevin Thomson, the former Hibs, Rangers and Dundee midfielder, has left Tranent Juniors after just three appearances and one goal. Thomson, pictured, took the Scottish football world by surprise when he joined the McBookie.com East Premier League side in July. His arrival was described as the biggest ever signing in junior football. “It just hasn’t worked out as I planned,” said Thomson, 31, yesterday. The midfielder scored in Tranent juniors’ 3-1 defeat to Haddington Athletic on Wednesday night but was substituted shortly afterwards. He has since parted company with the club. Thomson joined Tranent after deciding to step down a level when injuries, including four broken legs, began to take a physical toll. He had expressed interest in coaching youngsters after completing his coaching badges while at Hibs. He left the Easter Road club at the end of last season after a short third spell there and signed for Tranent. “I am just one of the lads and I want to be one of the lads,” he said at the time. Thomson is now considering his options once more. “I have had a few other offers already, from junior clubs and above, so I need to decide if I can put my body through it,” he said yesterday. However, he is determined to play on at some level while also pursuing a media career. Thomson was employed as a pundit by Radio Scotland for former club Dundee’s 1-1 draw against Hamilton Accies at Dens Park on Friday night.
