Keep your eye on the silky number 10 for Tranent scoring the 1st goal:D

Tidy play Ian. Nice 1st touch, turn and nice wee turn of pace to get away from the 2nd man.

Impressed though I was.... I liked the way that early in the clip, even without the ball, you were looking over your shoulder to see what space you had between yourself and the centre-half in the event the ball broke to you. Far too many of our kids these days simply don't look over the shoulder.

One my biggest regrets in life is that I quit playing football (because of the coach having some "strange" selection methods.... although I always managed to get a start) whilst being scouted by Scottish Premier teams. Our very small village had a guy who made it as far as Rangers reserves and folks in the village that had seen him play and seen me play said I was a better prospect than him (I was always a humble person so I took it as people just being nice to me).

People in the village likened me to Davie Robertson - although I never had his pace, but I read the game well, my distribution was good and I was solid in the tackle - I was somewhat of an anomaly - a right footed left back who could deliver crosses with his left foot too. I watch some players these days and I know for sure I was a better player than them - but such is life.

What annoys me about the whole situation though is that my coaches at Killie Boys Club never mentioned I was being scouted until 6 months after I had left and their attitude left me sickened to be honest.

Biggest regret of my life - but that said, life hasn't turned out too bad for me and I really can't complain.

Ex-Hibs and Rangers midfielder Kevin Thomson quits Tranent

Kevin Thomson, the former Hibs, Rangers and Dundee midfielder, has left Tranent Juniors after just three appearances and one goal. Thomson, pictured, took the Scottish football world by surprise when he joined the McBookie.com East Premier League side in July. His arrival was described as the biggest ever signing in junior football. “It just hasn’t worked out as I planned,” said Thomson, 31, yesterday. The midfielder scored in Tranent juniors’ 3-1 defeat to Haddington Athletic on Wednesday night but was substituted shortly afterwards. He has since parted company with the club. Thomson joined Tranent after deciding to step down a level when injuries, including four broken legs, began to take a physical toll. He had expressed interest in coaching youngsters after completing his coaching badges while at Hibs. He left the Easter Road club at the end of last season after a short third spell there and signed for Tranent. “I am just one of the lads and I want to be one of the lads,” he said at the time. Thomson is now considering his options once more. “I have had a few other offers already, from junior clubs and above, so I need to decide if I can put my body through it,” he said yesterday. However, he is determined to play on at some level while also pursuing a media career. Thomson was employed as a pundit by Radio Scotland for former club Dundee’s 1-1 draw against Hamilton Accies at Dens Park on Friday night.
