BEARGER 1,829
Reading a post over on FF, bit of a debate over when and by whom the bike was given. Anyone know the correct version?
Scott7 5,748
A gift from St Etienne marking a euro-tie late 50s early 60s. At the time, perhaps still, bicycle manufacture was a big industry in the city of St E.

trublusince1982 243
yeah my understanding too, the chairman of st etienne owned the bicycle manufacturer and gifted us the new model they had just produced

Was it not for the euro tie we played against them in the mid 1970's ?
boabie 230
Was it not for the euro tie we played against them in the mid 1970's ? Rab, I was on a tour of the trophy room around 1966 and the bike was there then.

rbr 1,255
Two ties. 1957 and 1975. The bike gift was 1957. My favourite story about the bike was when St E came back in1975 one of the first things the chairman of the French club mentioned was "he was looking forward to seeing the bike as I have heard of this gift ", unfortunately the trophy room wasn't what it is today and the bike was actually up in an attic somewhere , needless to say panic station ensued and the bike was recovered and cleaned up , disaster avoided .

I must admit rbr, I don't recall too much difference in the trophy room from my visit around 1966 and my last a couple of years ago. From memory the lay out is the same with maybe one more display cabinet within. On my first visit the bike was leaning against the far wall to the right as you enter the room. I think it's in the same place today.
