ian1964 10,596 Posted April 27, 2016 Share Posted April 27, 2016 BARRIE McKay has topped off a superb season by being nominated for PFA Scotland’s Young Player of the Year. The 21-year-old has been nominated for the award, by his fellow pros, alongside Hibs duo Jason Cummings and John McGinn and Celtic’s Kieran Tierney. The winner will be announced at a ceremony on Sunday 1 May. McKay’s wonder goal against Celtic is also in the running for the Goal of the Season gong – a performance he received huge plaudits for. The Hibees pair are also up for the main award with Gers captain Lee Wallace and top scorer Martyn Waghorn. After two seasons out on loan McKay returned to Rangers last summer vying for a place in the first team and has been rejuvenated by Mark Warburton. He has strung together numerous Man of the Match performance as Rangers won the Championship title, the Petrofac Cup and, most notably for his display, the Old Firm derby to reach the Scottish Cup Final. The pacey wide man has been a near ever-present this season, netting nine goals and assisting eight goals in the league. He has also been recalled to the Scotland Under 21 squad after a three year hiatus and confirmed himself as a fixture in Ricky Sbragia’s set-up. He picked up Rangers Young Player of the Year award just last week. The forward’s performances this season won him a contract extension in February, which will keep him at the club until 2018. McKay made his first-team debut against St Johnstone in the final game of the 2011/12 season and it means he is one of only two players, including Lee Wallace to have been demoted with Gers and complete the journey. Rousseau 9,902 Posted April 27, 2016 Share Posted April 27, 2016 As pleased as I am for Barrie, it does seem like the praise has come on the back of a goal (a wonder goal) against Celtic and not because of his consistently superb performances.
