Was it not the case that we have a YOUTH called Jason Cummings ? Could be miles out :D

If that link is referring to a youth player with the same name then he also has the exact same birth date.

Rangers set to hand Oguchi Onyewu a contract after a successful trial

AMERICAN centre-half Oguchi Onyewu is set to win a Rangers deal after impressing on trial in South Carolina.

With Clint Hill already signed, the 6ft 4in former AC Milan, Sporting Lisbon and Charlton man would strengthen a defence that came under fire last season.

Rangers won’t make a final decision until the end of this week but the signs are good for 34-year-old Onyewu – if he wants to make the switch to Scotland.

Assistant boss Davie Weir said: “There is a chance he will win a contract. We wouldn’t have invited him here if we didn’t think he had a chance.

“We’ve got until the end of the week to make our minds up.

“We’ll give him our thoughts and he will give us his and we will see where we are at.

“He has done well. It’s difficult for him to come into a group he doesn’t know and make an impression.

“Since he left Charlton he has been training with DC United for a period of time.

“He still wants to play and contribute. He wants a challenge that excites him. He has options in the USA and he wants to have options in Europe too.

“If we don’t sign him it doesn’t mean we need to find another centre-back because we have Clint and Matt Crooks can play there.

“There are definitely certain areas we can improve on and we’re constantly doing that.

“Everyone needs competition no matter what walk of life you are in. You need to have that competitive edge and to be pushed and challenged.

“You must constantly make yourself better and that’s the environment we want to create.”

Rangers face USL side Charleston Battery in a friendly tomorrow night, and former St Mirren and Hearts goalkeeper Mark Ridgers believes they will be offered a decent challenge.

Ridgers’ side Orlando City B secured a narrow 2-1 victory against them last month.

He said: “They’re one of the more experienced teams in the USL. They have a Jamaican striker called Romario Williams who is on loan from Montreal Impact.

“He and a midfielder called Justin Portillo, who took all the set-pieces, were their best players.

“Their two central defenders were both giants. Overall you could see they had a bit more experience than most of the sides in the USL.

“They’ll give Rangers a game. They were definitely League One standard in Scotland and the better ones, like the guys up front, were Championship level.”

Meanwhile, the Light Blues are set to take Congo-born Finnish teenager Serge Atakayi on trial.

Ibrox scouts have watched the Jaro winger in his last two games.

Atakayi, 17, spent a week at Leicester City earlier this year and he has also been at Fulham on trial.

Onyewu has sufficient experience at a high level to be a useful acquisition if he can remain fit to play. If he comes in we now have ample height in the centre of defence which was lacking last season and guys that tall can also be a useful threat in attacking set pices where we also lacked the height.

Be good if we could get him on a basis of you will be paid if you're fit for selection.

Was going from memory. Could be my bad.

Doesn't mean anything though because that link had been posted just after the SC final. If true it would have been announced long before now.

As we have the benefit of hindsight let's use it. Should we have kept him and stopped hibs getting him?

I say yes.

Would he have played for us in any great way, shape or form ? In an MW team, I say no.

Helped them win the league too did he ?
