Dave King interviews

The Scotsman this morning went with.........."Mark Warburton has warned that Rangers will still have to spend heavily to match Celtic in the Premiership next season."

Thing is MW never said this and it is a journalist (Stepen Halliday) giving an inaccurate reflection of what was actually said so as to help build pressure on the board to spend money. The media went loco with this angle before, during and after the January window and can't stop using it. Admittedly DK made a rod for his own back with some of what was previously said but talk about overplay.

What has been recently said is that significant transfer activity will be needed and that the right players that represent value for money will be what we look for or now rather deals we try to get done.

It's not about how much money so much as getting value for every pound spent within a sustainable wage structure.

......and btw Well Done to the board for a visionary managerial appointment .

I can't help feeling we've got to be careful about insulting our current squad who just beat Celtic and won the Championship at a distance, and the wee cup too.

However, we'll probably lose our three loans, as well as Shiels, Law, Clark and Templeton. So we need to recruit 7 players to get back to the same strength of squad. We maybe need a few others for strength in depth as the semi-final showed we need. So maybe even 10 - unless we can keep Ball and King.

I think these are the aspects we should be emphasising while praising our current squad.

the Sun went with 'Warburton BEGGED'. I asked Rebecca Gray about it on twitter and she basically ignored me :)

You'd imagine players like Jordan Thomson and Burt, if he's to have a future at the club, would feature more prominently, as well as the two from Accrington who've already been announced. Ball is clearly not going to feature at Spurs so a deal for him wouldn't be a huge surprise.

IF we win the cup, Dave King will be due a lot of credit. That's some turn around of our fortunes on and off the pitch in just over a year. The boardroom coup was masterful when our existence looked like going the route of Newcastle, and as such worthy of some kind of revolution hero status.

I know others are involved but sometimes it takes a leader, front man and focal point to get things done, and he seems to have done the job so far. With his earlier promises, I can't see him letting us down in the recruitment drive for next season, with money coming from his own pocket and others - either as equity or lones converted to equity in future.

However, I do expect him to be careful with the money and it's not the usual war chest to splurge - and in that respect he has chosen the perfect manager.

The European football possibility will be a factor although again we can't speculate too much as we don't know how well we'll do. We'll need to hold back a bit on that and can revisit the transfer market in January, if everything pans out and we reach the group stages.

I can't help thinking what would have happened if he had taken over from Murray a while back - before the EBTs. His character seems a lot less egotistical and volatile.

So if we win the Cup, there can be no more criticism about how much he's spent so far - it will be just right, the Goldilocks amount.

We have loaned quite a few players too, who might or might have not developed there. We saw what this has done to McKay (even though you wonder how a McKay might have helped us last season). Gasparotto (CH), Aird (RW/FB), Crawford (MF), Murdoch (MF), Thompson (MF), Walsh (wing), Hardie (striker) plus Dykes, Sinnamon and some others. I would expect that MW has watched their progress closely ... and some are defo for the off. But one never knows.

Right now, I would hope that we can keep or get Ball, Shiels, and King.

He's not exactly been on fire for Hull this season, but Sone Aluko will be a freebie this summer. He'd add some experience to our squad.
