New Chairman in Summer?

Recommended Posts

Methinks he said right at the beginning that it would stretch his capabilities to travel between the RSA and Scotland too much, so he would have to balance it all somewhat. A chairman "closer to home" might be the option, but honestly, the club is run by a board of directors, a CEO and thus the chairman (like the one in the middle who rules like a king a la SDM) is not exactly required to be there every other day. Other than that, only health or familiy issues spring to mind, but apparently this was just a rumour to tango us a little after promotion ... ?

I'd never heard rumours that a different chairman was in the offing.........................in past times I would never thought about board members or even owners...what a learning curve this has been

was there something about far east investors a few weeks ago.......

I always thought there were two types of chair - the ones who actually does all the chairman stuff, and the ones who are more figure heads and more of an honorary position, although they are big hitters that can step up to the plate when the big situation arises. For the latter I'd expect someone else on the board as a de facto chair for the day to day stuff.

So I don't see a problem with DK being the latter, which makes his main location and amount of daily input unimportant. However, stepping back and allowing a more active chair to take the designation, doesn't seem like a problem either, as he'd still be the top cat involved in the big stuff.

I like him as chairman as he seems to carry a bit of gravitas, and speaks better than our other directors. He's also shown a lot of nerveless steadfastness in the face of adversity. The guy comes across as a real leader.

If King is the official Chair or not is not so important, and we have other Directors working their butts off for the cause, and also have a good GM in place, good youth development, good first team manager, and good managers in place throughout. King has always worked in short bursts, even when he was trying to buy the club he would appear and do 20 things in a week then disappear back to SA and nobody would hear from him for a few weeks. I am pretty sure he has the confidence in his colleagues to leave the day to day stuff to them and get feedback on developments, and putting his views across from time to time as required.

You don't need a chair for "day to day" stuff normally though, that would be the role of the CEO.

It doesn't matter to me if he steps down as chair, what matters is that we have stability at Board level and with investors - we seem to have that at present and I would suspect that IF he stepped down that his replacement would be someone the current Board know and trust, thus hopefully ensuring continuity. Could even be a family member for all we know.

Dave will be the King behind the throne, i can live with that. As long as his replacement or anyone joining the board has a good business acumen, but more importantly imo a working knowledge of the Sfa/Spfl and the people who run it.

I think Stewart Robertson is your SFA/SPFL guy.

Ok, a figure of speech, I meant the board duties of chairing board meetings and setting and driving the agenda and providing leadership - as well as a load of other stuff. Month to month then...?

BTW Is it not the chair that the CEO is responsible to, and with whom he liaises with and takes advice and direction from? That sounds week to week...

My point was that I thought a lot of that stuff could be delegated to another board member, without that person needing the appellation of "Chair".
