GOGGLEBOX newcomers the Manuel family are caught up in a bizarre censorship row over a Rangers mug.

Charles, 54, wife Donna, 48, and son Grant, 19, were filmed with a Bridgeton Loyal Supporters Club cup during their TV debut.

But Bears fans were incensed when Channel 4 bosses blurred out the logo in repeats of the reality show — claiming it breached “promotional” rules.

One outraged Gers supporter said: “It’s a disgrace.”

Cup clash

RANGERS fans are already at the centre of a bizarre cup clash 12 days before their semi-final showdown with Celtic.

Viewers spotted new Gogglebox family the Manuels with a ‘Bridgeton Loyal’ supporters’ mug during their debut on the reality TV show.

But Bears supporters hit the roof when Channel 4 chiefs scrubbed the footie logo from repeats of the hit show.

Outraged Jamie Stewart tweeted: “Watching on catch-up and they blurred out the Bridgeton Loyal mug. Why? What’s wrong with it?”

Karen Peat added: “Absolute disgrace”. Another irate fan wrote: “Shocking. Don’t think I’ll bother watching anymore.”

The Light Blues cup was spotted on Charles Manuel’s coffee table as his family appeared on Gogglebox on Friday.

Channel 4 said they censored it because it breached rules on promotional items appearing in the programme.

But the Glasgow-based Bridgeton Loyal Rangers Supporters’ Club blasted the decision.

After the edited repeat, they posted on Facebook: “You can tell the level of hate out there for us when a mug causes a stooshie.”

Last night they added: “It has absolutely nothing offensive on it.

“It’s a copy of our 24ft x 24ft banner which we take to games and has been checked by Rangers officials and Police Scotland.

“We are hoping it’s just Channel 4 checking complaints from obsessed (Celtic) fans and the infamous mug will be back on our member’s coffee table for the next show.”

Glasgow-born Charles appears on the show with wife Donna, 48, and son Grant, 19, at the family home in Croydon, south London.

The cup also carries the slogan ‘We’re the boys from the Toll’ — in honour of the neighbourhood.

One Hibs fan wrote on Twitter: “Que*s*tionable mug on the table from this new family.” The Manuels’ appearance was also hit by viewers complaining that they couldn’t fathom their accents.

Twitter user L Copeland wrote: “I can’t understand the new Scottish woman on Gogglebox — and I’m from Glasgow.”

Gogglebox — watched by up to three million viewers every week — features families commenting on TV shows from their sofas.

Watchdog Ofcom said it has had no complaints about the cup.

Channel 4 said: “We apologise for any offence caused by this oversight which breached protocols on promotional items app*earing on the show.

“As soon as we became aware we took immediate action to ensure it was no longer visible in re*peats or on All 4.”

Ministry of Defence wor*k*er Donna said last night: “I wouldn’t be able to comment.”

Rangers meet Celtic in their hotly-anticipated Sco*ttish Cup semi-final at Hampden Park on April 17.

The Scottish Nazis are on the case, they want a final solution against the Protestant majority in Scotland.

Agree with the stupidity of this action by CH4. But there is no Protestant majority in Scotland.

Look at the biased broadcasting lot they say the do not advertise but clearly mention thing like the Barclays league, the Crabbies Grand National and so on clearly breaching their no advertising claim.

Channel four's blot out is obviously due the manky mob comlaining SO SO SAD but not unexpected.

Agree with the stupidity of this action by CH4. But there is no Protestant majority in Scotland.

"More than six out of ten people said that their religion was Christian (65%): 42% Church of Scotland, 16% Roman Catholics and 7% Other Christian. After Christianity, Islam was the most common faith with 77 thousand people in Scotland describing their religion as Muslim.22 Dec 2015"

Taken from the Scottish Government's on statistics. Church of Scotland being the largest religion.
