JOSH WINDASS played his first game since the turn of the year today – and scored in Accrington Stanley’s win over Newport County.

The midfielder signed a pre-contract with Rangers in January but hasn’t featured for English League Two outfit Accrington since January 2.

He had a double hernia operation last month and is now finally over the injury that has blighted this year.

Windass, son of former Aberdeen and Hull cult hero Dean, netted the second goal in the 2-0 victory after slamming home Piero Mingoia’s cross from the right.

He and team-mate Matt Crooks will arrive at Ibrox in the summer after a January transfer saga was finally brought an end with the pair signing pre-contracts.

Accrington boss John Coleman accused the duo of disrespecting their club when they posted on Twitter announcing they were joining a "massive club".

Long day but finally put pen to paper with @RangersFC and signed until 2020 .. Huge club with ambitions of European football . Can't wait ⚽️

Coleman then accused Rangers of tapping up Windass and Crooks – a claim Gers boss Mark Warburton rubbished.

May I?

Josh played 40 games LAST season, scoring 6 goals and assisting 5.

Josh played 25 games THIS season, scoring 12 goals and assisting 6.

He was out since January 19th and had a double hernia in the meantime. That is some feat, IMHO. And it is not surprising that the DR had to throw in the "tapping up" rubbish into the fray.

Fact is that he and Matt Crooks look like very useful players and will come into a side that may cause the odd Premiership manager a few sleepless nights as it is even now.
