Durrant Fumes At Defending

Recommended Posts

by Nick Thomson

IAN DURRANT was left to rue three defensive lapses as Rangers went down 3-0 to Celtic this afternoon.

In quite dreadful conditions at Lennoxtown, the Light Blues conceded all three goals immediately before and after the half-time interval, but performed relatively well outside of that period.

Afterwards, a frustrated Durrant told RangersTV.tv: “We pushed the self-destruct button again. Three minutes before half time, we let Celtic get out and we never pressed the ball or got tight to people and they opened us up and got the goal.

“It was then the ‘Keystone Cops’ in the opening minutes of the second half as we gave them two goals, and before we knew it we were 3-0 down and chasing the match.

“There was nothing in the game, other than three glaring mistake from us.”

Durrant revealed the riot act was read to his players following the game, although he admitted he can’t wait for another crack at the Hoops in order to put a few things right.

He continued: “We stated to the boys in the dressing room before the game that it would be a game of mistakes given the weather conditions, but the mistakes we made were diabolical, and they have been told in no uncertain manner that the need to shape up. We can’t give teams of the calibre of Celtic with the quality of player they have chances like that.

“For 40 minutes, we were comfortable without really creating anything I may add, but in terms of possession we dominated the ball without any end product.

“We play them again in a month or so, and I am looking forward to that game already as I know we will be and I will make sure we will be mentally stronger.”

Seems we have not got any better than the end of season games against Celtic last season. Most disappointing.

Really ? Based on one game and one result ? How do you come to that conclusion ?

Based on the managers opinion and the one game I saw last season against Celtic. We defended poor against Celtic in 2 games at the end of last season and now again. I think that is a fair assumption over our 3 last games against Celtic.
