East Kilbride v Celtic: Hamilton 'unavailable' for Scottish Cup tie

Recommended Posts

Hamilton Academical have told the Scottish FA they are unable to host the Scottish Cup tie between East Kilbride and Celtic on Sunday 7 February.

The Lowland League club had been told by the governing body that it would have to be played at New Douglas Park as K Park was not suitable.

It said rules dictated that it be played at the nearest suitable stadium.

But Accies now say they already have a full programme of events planned for their home pitch.

"It has recently been reported that we will be hosting the William Hill Scottish Cup fifth-round fixture between East Kilbride and Celtic on Sunday 7 February," they said in a club website statement.

"We have a full programme of academy, youth and community events already planned for that weekend and have no intention of altering our club programme and, as a result, will not be in a position to make New Douglas Park available to stage the tie."

Hamilton Accies have rubbished reports that the Celtic v East Kilbride Scottish Cup tie would be played at their New Douglas Park ground.

The club stated on its website that it had never been lined up to host the game and, moreover, their ground was never available on the weekend of February 7.

"It has recently been reported that we will be hosting the William Hill Scottish Cup 5th round fixture between East Kilbride and Celtic on Sunday 7th February," the statement read.

"We have a full programme of Academy, Youth and Community events already planned for that weekend and have no intention of altering our club programme and as a result will not be in a position to make New Douglas Park available to stage the tie."

The SFA announced after East Kilbride's victory over Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale that the Celtic match would take place at the Lanarkshire venue.

Hampden chiefs later issued a statement clarifying the reasons behind the decision despite the ground reportedly being the seventh choice of the host club.
