ian1964 10,721
SPFL to investigate 'unacceptable conduct' at Ibrox and Tynecastle The Scottish Professional Football League has launched a formal investigation into "unacceptable conduct" during Rangers' clash with Hibernian and Hearts' match with Dundee United. The league body has announced it is looking into incidents following a review of reports from the match delegate. Rangers condemned supporters who sang sectarian songs, including the banned Billy Boys, during the Scottish Championship match at Ibrox on December 28. STV understands the league is also looking into reports of disturbances in Tynecastle's Roseburn Stand during Hearts' win over United on December 30. The news comes after the SPFL revealed plans to introduce facial recognition technology at Scottish grounds in a bid to identify known troublemakers. Punishments for clubs who fail to prevent offensive behaviour would be increased as part of the new initiative. League representatives have already met the Scottish Government to discuss possible public funding for the proposals, which could cost up to £4m An SPFL spokesman said: “The SPFL is committed to addressing unacceptable conduct where it occurs.” Last August, the league charged Motherwell over crowd trouble at the end of the Premiership Play-Off final against Rangers. A commission chaired by an independent senior solicitor was to hear the case but no verdict has yet been released. http://sport.stv.tv/football/clubs/rangers/1339805-spfl-to-investigate-unacceptable-conduct-at-ibrox-and-tynecastle/
ian1964 10,721
Chris Graham @ChrisGraham76 32m32 minutes ago Seems to be very tricky to get the SPFL to investigate fan behaviour of teams with representatives on the SPFL board. Coincidence I'm sure.
boabie 230
Is anyone surprised at an investigation into Rangers ? Somebody questions the actions of the Parkhead plankton and a few days later the focus is firmly on us again. 8 months ago there was an enquiry into Motherwell. We're still waiting to find out what the result is. There will still be Rangers fans who'll continue to bankroll these bastards too.

Coincidence I'm sure. We have only ourselves to blame. Until our board recognise the type of people we are dealing with and confront them then this will continue against us while the yahoos get off with far worse. I would have thought Chris Graham would have realised this Edited January 20, 2016 by RANGERRAB
BrahimHemdani 1
The investigation is irrelevant because the SPL will put the "evidence" to the Clubs and the Clubs will reply that they did everything they could to prevent it. In the unlikely event that we are charged (and so far as I am aware no Club has ever actually been charged with the unacceptable conduct of their fans) we have a complete defense in terms of the "reasonably practicable" rule which means that so long as we can prove that we made announcements etc and had the right number of stewards and police as per our licence there is nothing the SPL can do under the current rules. As was seen yesterday, the Clubs will not grasp the nettle of "strict liability" because they know full well that it means they would be held fully accountable for the actions of their fans. So what's the point of the SPFL holding an investigation in the first place if they know they can't do anything?
craig 5,199
So what's the point of the SPFL holding an investigation in the first place if they know they can't do anything? Because it highlights "Big, bad Rangers" as being "the bad guys". Wonder when we will see Celtic investigated for their flares and IRA-Oke at Stair Park last week ? That's right, we wont. Nothing to see here, sweep sweep.... wait, it was Rangers - lets lift that rug again and take another look......
BrahimHemdani 1
So what's the point of the SPFL holding an investigation in the first place if they know they can't do anything? No point whatsoever. They are going through the motions to satisfy the SG that's all, then they can say they investigated it and could not take any action under the current rules.

The investigation in that case would be against Stranraer and it would have to be the SFA not the SPFL; as far as I recall the SFA rules mirror the SPFL rules in that respect or to be more precise it's vice versa.
