John Gilligan on radio tonight

... methinks I heard that Fraser Aird will go on loan soonish.

Aird can go on loan back to Canada anytime, he was decent in the third and fourth division but he's not good enough to get a game at this level never mind the SPL or Europe and as a reserve WB he's only keeping Sinammon out of the team.

John Gilligan: Rangers are in 'very safe hands' with new Ibrox investors at the helm

JOHN GILLIGAN insists Rangers are in ‘very safe hands’ for the future thanks to the backing of a host of Light Blues investors.

After years of turmoil on and off the park at Ibrox, fans are far more optimistic about what lies ahead for their club as they back the board and boss Mark Warburton.

Gilligan helped overthrow the former Gers regime last March as he, Dave King and Paul Murray took their seats at the top table after a lengthy power struggle.

And the businessman is confident the calibre of people they have attracted to put their money into Rangers will stand the club in good stead for years to come.

Gilligan said: “It was probably about four years ago [that I decided to get involved].

“Paul Murray was the guy that was the public face, he put himself up there to be shot down, he was shot down on a number of occasions.

“He was one of the four Requisitioners that failed and we were behind them. My wife said ‘well, what is happening now?’ and I said ‘that’s it, I’m buying a ticket, I’m going to the game, I’m not getting involved in anything’.

“I got a phone call the day after we lost the Requisition meeting and George Letham said that was preparing to get some people, put money in and have another go, and my wife fell out with me that night and we were back in again! We just wanted the club back.

“The dream for me is that I can step away at some point, become a normal supporter again and other people come in at some point to keep evolving the board over the next ten years to keep it vibrant, to keep good people coming in, quality people.

“The policing of the company at the moment is in very safe hands. When you look at the quality of the people that have invested, and I need to be careful that I don’t miss anyone out, you have got Dave, Douglas Park, Graeme Park, John Bennett, George Letham, George Taylor, Andy Ross and Barry Scott.

“These guys either own their own businesses or are top CEOs or MDs of big companies.

“We are in very safe hands because of their diligence and their professionalism, plus their responsibility. It affects their day to day life and their own businesses.

“The club is in very safe hands. That is the mix that you are looking for.”

The backing of wealthy businessmen has been key to the rebuilding job at Ibrox in recent months as a range of issues on and off the park have been addressed.

It was announced earlier this month that loans totalling £6.5million had been provided to Rangers International Football Club plc to pay off the £5million due to Sports Direct and provide working capital.

The Light Blue legions are keen to play their part in helping fund Rangers going forward and Gilligan hopes there will be a productive working relationship between those in the boardroom and on the terraces.

He told the ‘Talking Football’ show on RockSport Radio: “What we are trying to do is put everything together at the club to work together with the fans to create one model for investment and create a membership scheme.

“The fans know this because we have had quite a number of meetings about it and that is the way I see the club going.

“Transparency is a great buzzword and you do try your best, but there is also legal obligations and you can’t tell everybody everything.

“I would like to believe that the supporters see our attempts to communicate and keep people up to speed. You have got the City situation and you have got to be really careful.

“[The] corporate governance is sound and it was mentioned in Court the other day the financial aspect of the club and how it has improved.”

BH, a year or two back you were trying to persuade us Aird was the new Alec Scott.

That's very true, Scott; but he simply didn't develop the way he should have, perhaps the various changes of management last season slowed his progress and it has come to a complete halt under MW.

It's conceivable he could play on the right of a front three with McKay on the left, which potentially could be devastating; but IMHO Waghorn is the best we have on the right of a front three and it's generally accepted we need an out and out striker.

That said he's still only 21, perhaps a fresh start elsewhere will reignite his career.
