Rangers' Wi-Fi providers FAIL in bid to arrest £300,000 over unpaid bill

Recommended Posts

Mr Catto said that the defence that only 10,000 users could access the Wi-Fi in the stadium and that contributed a breach of contract was "feeble".

The court was told that it was "quite clear from documents" that it was obvious there was no intention that anything like 50,000 people would be able to use the system simultaneously.

That's obviously true because there's no way 50,000 people are going to be online at one time even if you could design a system to deal with that which I think is highly unlikely (but would be interested in expert comment).

Au contraire:

802 Event WiFi chief executive Felix Gibson said: "This is a major development. It is a transformative deal which will change the way fans interact with their club. We are very proud to have been instrumental in delivering this game-changing technology."

The market-leading project, will ultimately give every fan seated at Ibrox Stadium - as well as in the approaches, concourse, restaurants and corporate areas - full, instant access to content-rich media and allow them to participate in real time interactions with the club. It is Huawei's first project with a major club in Europe.

The new set-up will remove at a stroke the connectivity problems of 3G in high-density areas and allow 50,000+ supporters access to club competitions, merchandising, Rangers media, forthcoming events and more fan/club interactive engagement.

I don't buy that, it was working very well as far as I am concerned and much much better than the old system.

I think it worked twice for me in the whole time is was supposedly on. And that was around 20mins before kick off.

It never worked for me at half-time.

Clearly one fan's experience will be different from others. It didn't bother me all that much but when something costs around £1m to install then the promises made in the statement should be adhered to.

Simon Catto is no mug.

He is the lawyer who successfully represented Whittaker and Naismith against Charles Green's charges of breach of contract and obtained their International Clearance Certificates from the SFA.

He also successfully represented Dunfermline against the SFA in 2010 when they were thrown out the Cup for playing an ineligible player.

Good lawyer or not, the company clearly embellished the truth in their press releases. One does wonder if their legal agreements with Rangers have the same wording.

Yes but with respect, it doesn't say nor if I was representing them would I accept that it implies that all 50,000 people would be able to get online at the same time which appears to be part of Rangers defence.

As I say I am anything but an expert in this field but is it reasonable to expect 50,000 people to get online inside a stadium at the same time?

think he was always on to a winner with Whittaker and Naismith. Law is pretty clear on that issue

Agreed, I could have won that case; the TUPE Regs are clear, the employees had the right to proper notice which they didn't get and the right to reject the new contract which they did.

Getting Dunfermline reinstated in the SC after playing a suspended player amongst other things was something else entirely.

BH I bought a car which the salesman assured me was the most reliable car on the road. A fortnight later it broke down. Can I cancel my agreement with the garage now ?
