Report: Rangers teenager Liam Burt snubbing Celtic for new Ibrox contract after Warburton conversation

According to The Scottish Sun, Rangers teenager Liam Burt is set to snub a move Celtic in order to pen a new contract at Ibrox.

When Rangers appointed manager Mark Wabrurton over the summer, it was clear that the Gers were hoping to bring through their own crop of young players, given Warburton's history in youth development.

Players like Jordan Thompson, Ryan Hardie and Tom Walsh have been in and around the first team this season, and are tipped for big futures under Warburton.

Another player who has been training with the first team at times this season is midfielder Liam Burt, with Warburton clearly having faith in the teenager.

At just 16, Burt is another player tipped for big things in the coming years, but his contract expires at the end of the season, and there has been some concern that Rangers could lose the prospect.

The Scottish Sun report that Rangers' fierce Old Firm rivals Celtic have made an approach to Burt, as they hope to tempt him in to a switch across Glasgow.

However, it's stated that playmaker Burt has been persuaded to stay at Ibrox and sign a new contract by manager Warburton, who has told the youngster that Rangers is the best place to continue his development, rather than Celtic.

It will now be interesting to see how Burt's career differs from that of Dylan McGeouch, the midfielder who left Rangers for Celtic in 2011, only to make little impact with the Bhoys and end up with Hibernian.

Good to hear but let's hope we don't have another John Fleck situation. We're terrible in this country at over-hyping youngsters and maybe it actually has hindered their development.

To be fair though the appreciation of the lad is kept within the Murray Park confines rather than being played out in the media, as was the case with Fleck.
