TANNADICE sources say no talks have taken place directly between the clubs but we have learned United have been approached by agents working on behalf of Shakhtar Donetsk.

DUNDEE UNITED have been offered the chance to become a feeder club for Shakhtar Donetsk.

But the Taysiders are playing down reports in Ukraine that an ambitious link-up could be imminent.

It has been claimed the clubs were in “advanced talks” over an official partnership with discussions having taken place.

But Record Sport online has learned they have been approached by agents working on behalf of Shakhtar Donetsk.

A Tannadice source said: “This is very premature and a long way off. No talks have taken place directly between the clubs at all.”

United are believed to have cooled on the idea after the initial approach from a third party given their position at the foot of the Scottish Premiership.

However, it is something that could be revived in the summer and any deal could see the Tangerines land some top talent from the Champions League regulars and 2009 UEFA Cup winners.

Shakhtar boast a succsseful academy and want to establish a partnership with a European club to offer some of their youngsters first team experience.

They were previously in talks with Serbian outfit FK Vojvodina Novi Sad over a similar move but the deal fell through due to Serbia’s sports laws.

Now they are willing to invest in Scottish football, having been attracted to United due to their ability to nurture young talent.

The Scottish Premiership side are currently bottom of the league and battling against relegation after losing some of their best starlets.

Ryan Gauld was sold to Sporting Lisbon and Andy Robertson to Hull City while Gary-Mackay Steven, Stuart Armstrong and Nadir Ciftci were all sold to Celtic which angered fans.

Shakhtar Donetsk are owned by Ukrainian businessman and oligarch Rinat Akhmetov who is one of the richest men in the country and are keen to grow their brand in the United Kingdom with United their target.

Ha! No sympathy for those wankers! Why didn't they 'threaten' their board with non-attendance like they did when it came to the decision of Rangers remaining in the SPL?

I don't pay much attention to the teams 'up there' and how they are all doing, but I'm finding myself rather obsessed and hopeful those bastards from Tayside plummet into the Championship and never return in my lifetime at the very least!
