Warbs gut's himself at Stubbs

Recommended Posts

MARK WARBURTON has laughed off Alan Stubbs’ attempts to gain a psychological edge in the Championship title race after he claimed Hibernian are getting into the minds of the Rangers squad.

The Easter Road boss was this week named Manager of the Month for guiding his side on an impressive run of form that has seen them whittle down Rangers’ advantage at the top of the table.

Rangers are three points in front of their promotion rivals ahead of the visit of Morton this weekend as they look to maintain their lead going into the crunch clash with Stubbs’ side on December 28.

And, when asked about the comments from his Capital counterpart, Warburton said: “Haven’t sleep for weeks… If they are mind games, then I think psychologists can retire and move on. Far from it, it’s a just a bit of banter I’m sure.

“No [the players don’t speak about Hibs]. Seriously, there’s no fuss from our point of view. Our focus is Rangers.

"All we are thinking about is Morton this weekend. When we get that one of out of the way, we will move on from there.

“There is no point looking at a game on the 28th if we lose two games in the meantime.

“You just have to focus on your next opponent and hopefully getting three points with a god performance.”

Before the top two in the table do battle in the final encounter of the year, there are key fixtures to come for both clubs in the Championship.

While Warburton’s side face the Ton tomorrow and then have a trip to Falkirk next weekend, Hibs will host the Bairns on Saturday and then welcome Queen of the South.

There are still plenty of twists and turns to come in the second tier title tussle but Warburton insists his squad will continue to keep the focus firmly on themselves and not worry about their promotion rivals.

He said: “It (Hibs results) doesn’t matter. All you can focus on in your performance in the next game. The focus must be on Rangers.

“I’m sure Hibs and Falkirk and all these teams would say the same about themselves.

“We have to make sure we train and prepare well. That is where our focus is.

“If our training dips, then there is an inquest. But we have trained really well this week.

“With the game being cancelled last week, we are looking forward to the game and hopefully a packed Ibrox.

“Why would we [speak about Hibs]? I use that word respect and it is no lack of respect to any team. But our focus is here. If other teams want to talk about Rangers, fantastic.”
