Alan Hodgkinson

RANGERS is deeply saddened to hear former goalkeeper coach Alan Hodgkinson has passed away at the age of 79.

 

Alan worked with the club in the 1990s and nurtured the talent of Andy Goram, one of the best goalkeepers that the Light Blues has ever had and also worked with Stefan Klos during Dick Advocaat’s time at the Gers.

 

Hodgkinson was a pioneer as a specialist coach for goalkeepers and he worked closely with other greats at clubs across the country including Peter Schmeichel, David Seaman and Neville Southall.

 

He retired from the game just three years ago from a role with Oxford United and had been involved in the professional game through seven decades from the 1950s.

 

Hodgkinson was awarded an MBE in 2008 and also worked with the Scottish National Team.

 

Everyone at the club sends their sincere condolences to Alan’s family at this very difficult time.

Very sad!

 

I worked with Alan a few times in my younger days and he was my best GK coach by a fair distance. Had a great rapport with everyone he worked with - was strict but fair and very droll.

 

Had a particularly brilliant week with him and several other goalies at Largs in 1992. Goram was injured at the time but Ally Maxwell was there for Rangers amongst others.
