Peterhead plead with SPFL to stage Rangers Petrofac Cup Final clash at Hampden...

...and secure huge windfall for Blue Toon.

THE League One club's general manager says the crowd at the National Stadium could be three times what it would be at another venue.

PETERHEAD have pleaded for a Hampden date against Rangers to seal a massive windfall for the club.

The League One outfit face a significant increase in their potential cash rewards for making the Petrofac Cup Final if the game is staged at the national stadium.

SPFL chiefs are currently in negotiations with Hampden heads in a bid to secure their first-choice venue for the match on April 10 next year.

Hibs’ Easter Road Stadium is also an option should it prove too expensive to hire Hampden.

But Record Sport understands McDiarmid Park, a possible third alternative, was virtually ruled out due to capacity when Rangers defeated St Mirren in the semis to book their place in the Final.

Peterhead general manager Nat Porter has confirmed he will attend a meeting with Rangers, the SPFL and Petrofac later this week to conclude the matter.

But Hampden is the firm favourite and Porter has outlined the huge impact it will make to the finances of his club if the deal is sealed with the potential for 30,000 more fans able to go to the national stadium instead of Easter Road.

He said: “Our finance director has not stopped smiling since Saturday afternoon. He has a coat-hanger in his mouth.

“There is no denying the difference it can make for a club like ourselves.

“Had it been McDiarmid Park for a game against St Mirren, you would be looking at perhaps 10,000 fans.

“Now it is Rangers, if the game is at Hampden, you are talking 30,000.

“Obviously, you have to take concessions and such like into the situation but if there are 25,000 at £10 a head, that gives you £250,000.

“The home team gets 15 per cent and then it’s split 50-50 after that, so you are talking in excess of £100,000 at least.

“That’s just plucking figures but it’s reasonable to suggest it will make a massive difference to us.

“We are happy with Hampden, Rangers have come out publicly and have said they are happy with Hampden.

“And there doesn’t seem to be any resistance from Petrofac or the SPFL.”

If both Peterhead and Rangers see Hampden as the best option, Hampden/SFA would themselves benefit and the sponsers would no doubt welcome a higher profile venue................then surely Hampden it will be.

Just shows how pathetic the powers that are in this small country with two bodies running things as the National Stadium should be sacrament to being used for finals.

Do all clubs not contribute to the SFA blazer run organisation?.

I reckon the SFA will drag their heels with this one.

Common sense tells us that Hampden is the obvious and only choice due to the fact we'll bring a big support.

I can see them naming Easter Road as the venue out of stubbornness
