Transfer Deadline Day: Michael O'Halloran signs until 2020

Over the odds by how much £100k? That's some exact estimating of a players value we must be doing never mind the fact we are assuming MW didn't value the players higher.

So in one hand MW is fantastic at spotting talent and getting them to reach their potential and in the other hand he cant get a players value to grow by margin greater than £100k!

I think we should just leave it now the excuse holds no weight the same as constantly blaming the other party as each transfer. Our job is to secure our targets that will help us achieve the big picture not be left holding the bag for the sake of £100k.

I think the fault lies in the way we deal with transfers you think its the players value thats the stumbling block.

I think that depends on what you value the player at. If MW had thought 400.000 then he was already outside his limit. The old adage counts you are worth what a fool will pay.

I don't think there is any sense to the belief MW would think a regular for a championship side could be bought for less than £400k That was still under contract with the selling team in no rush to get rid. I also dont think it would take 23 days to figure out the player was out with our valuation.

I also don't think MW would have anything to do with valuations since we do not have a transfer budget for him to stick to. Time and again the board have told us MW identifies the targets and they deal with getting the players in. Too many think MW goes to the board and says here's the guy I want but don't spend a penny more than £400k on him. I just don't think that is realistic.

The valuation placed on diagouraga was known pretty much from the start so why would we then wait two weeks without moving onto our next target? It makes no sense for the value to be the issue. We wouldn't have waited 2 weeks and done nothing.

I also doubt very much that MW looked at the Scottish market and the position ST J are in and thought he could get their best player for £150k-£200k especially after he as just watched a championship player go for double that in Allan, that would suggest he has no idea what he is doing and I certainly don't think that is the case. Again if the valuation is the problem we would have moved on and pursued other targets. MW has stated clearly he didn't want to wait until the end of the window, the fact we have done so shows there is a problem that was not readily identified and fixed. I imagine the fee associated with targets would be pretty quickly understood it wouldn't account for the hold up on more than one player.

As we are now just a week away from the window "slamming shut" (as they say on SSN!) it is most disappointing that our only business has been a winger who can't even get on from the bench when we are 4-0 up, and a reserve goalie who, injury to Wes aside, won't be chosen to play.

MW said many times he wanted his business done early, and it is as clear as day that we need to improve our starting 11 for next season but we haven't added one first pick to the squad, yet.

MW is also on record as saying it all gets a bit crazy in the last few days of the window, which I would agree with, but here we are with no improvement. Forrester in and Oduwa out and a new sub goalie that wasn't needed hasn't changed our squad at all.

I'm comfortable we will win this league come May without any additions but for me this window should have been all about progression of the squad towards next season. MW has spoken many times about squad unity and not bringing in too many at one time, but if we can't get quality (and I certainly don't mean two guys from feckin Accrington) into our squad in the next week, we will have to bring in around 10 new faces in the summer, which is the exact opposite of what MW has been saying since day 1.

Not only am I uninspired by the two we have brought in and the 2 we have pre-contracted, I am even completely unimpressed with the targets we are missing!

Hopefully negotiations are ongoing and we can get a couple of players in to improve the first team this week. There are to my mind 5 places needing improved right now. 2 centre backs, def mid, creative mid, and striker. Wilson, Kiernan, Halliday (in current position), Law/Shiels/Zelalem, and Miller are all sub-standard IMO for next season.

Wes, Tav, Wallace, Holt, Waggy & McKay will all be fine next season I think, although I still have some doubts over some of them they have earned the chance to see if they are good enough and if we can bring in some quality to play in the other 5 slots we can win the title, or at least run the worst ever Celtic team close ( as embarrassing as that is to admit we may have to settle for 2nd to as bad a side as that).

It is up to our management and board to deliver. They have one week to show we are on track.

Fully agree. This has all the 'hallmarks' of our transfer windows in years gone by and we don't appear to be learning lessons. There is one thing in being frugal (which I think we are all agreed on), but its another thing all together being poor at conducting our business, and being contradictory in the process which just makes us look plain stupid. "Getting our business done early in the window" (MW), "we've got a few key targets we hope to get over the line in the next couple of day - they are almost there" (MW), "we want to have a team ready to compete in the top flight of the top divisions, a team who have played together and know each other, not assembled in the summer window before the season starts" (DK).

Nobody supports our manager (and our board) more than me but I can't believe MW is happy with how its going. I think he must be slightly disillusioned and disappointed with whoever is conducting this business. Even as an avid supporter of our current management and board we should be able to voice concerns when we perceive certain problems - its unhealthy if we can't.

Every penny's a prisoner, so if it takes some extra time to negotiate a lower fee then that's what needs to be done. If we lose out because someone else comes in with a hgher fee than that's just a sign of the financial position we're in.

We don't have a spare £100K to throw around. we are relying on cashflow from shareholders and everything is carefully being looked at.

In addition we don't know the salary that Leeds were offering. Perhaps Leeds were offering him double what any of our players are on and therefore we couldn;t compete, so there's no point in us even trying to find the extra cash, even if it was possible.

There's lots of issues and it's simplistic to just assume that we are in a position to deal with transfers ina different way.

If we had offered fair market value leeds would not have had the chance to offer a better wage. Our transfer strategy led to losing out and in my opinion only leaves you with the players other teams don't want. Every transfer we go for ends up in the media due to the interest in our club, if we continue to take so long then we will lose far more than we win. That is not a consequence of our financial position that is a consequence of not being prepared.

If we don't have the necessary funds to pay market price then we should not be bidding on players we have no chance in affording. Must say i don't think the money(value) is the problem. If we don't have the money then knocking back the £500k from RF would have been an act of sheer stupidity and ego that puts our managers happiness and the position of the club as second.

Think we can take that as utter pish. As has been rightly pointed out, you cannot even speak to the player, never mind finalise personal terms, until a fee with the club has been agreed. Given we are miles out on that, there is no way Saints would allow us to speak to their player.

FWIW we won't have an issue with personal terms for a player like that who won't even be on £1k pw at a club like that, and will no doubt double, triple or even more his wages if he comes to us, unless we are now dealing a lot smarter in this area too (I can hope!)

Plus when your operating at this level the world is full of players just as good.

It's not like your missing out on Scotland best striker or goalkeeper etc where there's a clear step down to the next guy.
