Record FC Celtic: Time for Rangers to say sorry...

...and hand back their tainted titles

by JamesFlynn

IN his first column for Record FC, our new Celtic blogger has his club's derby rivals in his sights - and is looking for an apology.

IF this judgment against Rangers, for tax evasion through the use of EBTs, stands - they cheated and should be stripped of titles.

They didn’t just cheat a wee bit, they cheated massively, in an organised and deliberate way hidden from the football authorities for a number of years.

It’s pretty straight forward to me. Although the titles were won “on the pitch”, the players wouldn’t have been there had the tax been rightfully paid.

And although there are players now saying “I would’ve played without an EBT” they weren’t saying that at the time.

Plenty of their team-mates did though, plenty of Rangers players never touched them. At the time Rangers were paying Stefan Klos the same wages that David Beckham was picking up, all thanks to EBTs.

And let’s not forget even the architect of the whole tax-dodging scheme, Mr Black, AKA David Murray, admitted that Rangers would not have been able to afford those players without EBTs.

But it’s not down to anyone else to prove Rangers wouldn’t or couldn’t have signed those players had it not been for EBTs.

Is it a defence of Lance Armstrong to say “he probably would have won those races anyway”? Of course it isn’t.

The only reason Rangers would adopt this scheme is to give them an advantage on the pitch. It couldn’t be clearer, they cheated.

Whilst we’re at it, let’s have an apology. Throughout this entire debacle that’s driven Scottish football backwards by years, not one ounce of contrition has been shown by Rangers or their fans. Defiance, boycotts, angry statements and protests. There have been so many of those we barely notice them any more.

Maybe you could begin setting right the wrongs by apologising to the rest of us, and handing back those tainted titles.

54 and counting...Backwards.

The Daily Record has just published a piece by a Celtic blogger accusing Rangers of tax evasion. Clearly defamatory. Top editorial skills.

@pcspicer56 No they didn't. They decided tax was payable. Avoidance not evasion and entirely legal. Get your dunce hat on.

@pcspicer56 Wrong again. Google avoidance and evasion. You are spouting off about something you don't understand. #Dunce
