Court of Session rules in favour of HMRC + Rangers Issue Statement

What constitutes cheating and who decides the definition of it?

What if a member of your staff has been guilty of committing a detestable crime over a lengthy period? "You couldn't hold the club to account for that" many would say. But consider if the club in question knew of this horrible crime and failed to hand the perpetrator over with a major disregard for the trauma of the victims?

"Why would they do that?" many would say. To save reputation, credibility, standing - call it what you like. What would be the potential outcome otherwise? Who knows? Loss of sponsorship, impact of merchandise sales by association, potential loss of players. Who knows? However you look at it - covering up a horrible crime to save reputation and associated income is cheating in my view. Ring any bells?

That wee tosser Chrus McL on BBC after alluding to cheating etc. said that after contacting the football authorities there seems to be no appetite to go down that route again.

Thomson has already been chirping. Speirs has crawled out from under his rock after a prolonged absence and BBC are giving Daly time on tv tonight to lead the campaign for further punishments to be handed out. It has started.

So do Celtic also get a title stripped given that they, too, were using EBT's ? Difference being that we actually disclosed ours in the financials whilst they actually hid theirs ?

Sporting advantage, surely ? Even if they only had an EBT for a tenner - who is to say that the recipient player wouldn't have taken his services elsewhere had that tenner not been on offer ?

Aye, hypocrisy at its finest.

Oh I'm sure we'll see a concerted campaign (looks like it's already in motion!).

Found this nugget interesting....

Would be interesting to know FS why BDO felt the need to contest this. Will be interesting to see if they are willing to appeal today's decision.

Don't think they won one then, Crag just a Scottish Cup was it not? Though obviously I agree with you overall

According to this MurraytheDestroyer will contest it. (I doubt it myself, but anyway)

club statement

http://rangers.co.uk/news/club/club-statement-55/

WE WOULD like to correct some misleading information that has been circulating on what is described as the “Big Tax Case”.

For the avoidance of doubt, Rangers have not lost the case. There is no question of any liability impacting on our Club, its history or any member of the Rangers International Football Club plc Group.

The Rangers Football Club and the entities which currently own and manage it are not party to these proceedings nor do we have any say in what happens. The proceedings are a matter for those affected by them.

We note that the assessments for tax which were the subject for appeal and which are referred to as the Big Tax Case relate to Murray Group Holdings Limited, Murray Group Management Limited, The Premier Group Property Limited, GM Mining Limited and RFC 2012 PLC (in liquidation).
